College of Arts and Science organized a Fans Meet for Mugen Rao in anticipation of his upcoming Tamil film “JINN: The Pet”, set to release worldwide on 30th May 2025. The event was initiated and presented by Mr. R.D. Balaji, Course Director of the Department of Visual Communication, as part of the department’s extension activities. It was conducted exclusively for Visual Communication students, offering them a valuable opportunity to gain insights into the world of filmmaking. The core team of “JINN: The Pet”, including Director T.R. Bala and the film’s lead actor Mugen Rao, took the stage at 2:30 PM. The event quickly gained momentum with the participation of influencers, the technical crew, enthusiastic fans, and students. Anchor Diya gracefully welcomed the gathering and introduced Mr. Mugen Rao, highlighting his achievements from the early stages of his career. Mugen, who is also a singer and actor, emphasized that consistent effort is the key to success. Director T.R. The Department of Visual Communication organized a heartfelt Farewell Ceremony to bid adieu to the outgoing students of II M.Sc. Visual Communication (2023-25) and III B.Sc. Visual Communication (2022-25). The event was held on 25th April 2025 at the preview theatre, and was filled with emotion, celebration, and a strong sense of belonging. The program commenced with the lighting of a lamp that set the tone for the occasion, followed by a warm welcome address by the Head of the department, Dr. R Srinivasan. The HoD delivered an inspiring speech appreciating the achievements and creative contributions of the graduating students. Faculty members of the department shared their memories and extended their best wishes for the students' future endeavors in the fields of media, communication, and design.
As part of the celebration, juniors from both the undergraduate and postgraduate streams presented cultural performances including dance, music, and skits, showcasing their affection and admiration for their seniors. The Department of Visual Communication, S.A. College of Arts & Science, organized an International Film Festival titled "Frames of Legacy", a retrospective on the works of the renowned Sri Lankan filmmaker, Thiru. Prasanna Vithanage. The two-day festival, held on 24th and 25th March 2025, took place at the SACAS Theatre from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This initiative was led by Mr. R.D. Balaji, who played a crucial role in bringing this significant event to life.
DAY 1 – 24th March 2025
The Program commenced at 9:00 AM with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony, symbolizing enlightenment and knowledge. Mr. R.D. Balaji extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and the audience. His speech highlighted the significance of cinema in storytelling and Prasanna Vithanage’s contribution to world cinema, particularly in addressing socio-political issues through his films.
Film Screening 1: "With You, Without You" (2012)

This poignant film explores themes of love, guilt, and redemption in post-war Sri Lanka. It tells the story of a Tamil woman and a Sinhalese man, portraying the complexities of ethnic tensions and human relationships. Podcast Interactive Session with Thiru. Prasanna Vithanage: A major highlight of the festival was the exclusive podcast-style conversation with Prasanna
Vithanage himself. He shared insights into his filmmaking journey, the inspiration behind his works, and the social issues he seeks to address through cinema. This session provided a rare opportunity for students to directly engage with the filmmaker, gaining valuable knowledge about the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking. Valedictory Function The festival concluded with a Valedictory Function, where Mr. R.D. Balaji, introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Shanmuga Raja, a renowned film actor and theatre director. He highlighted Mr. Raja’s contributions to the film and theatre industry, acknowledging his expertise in the field of acting. Art of Acting: This session provided an in-depth understanding of the fundamentals of acting, focusing on various elements essential to performance. Understanding the Fundamentals of Acting: Participants were introduced to the basics of acting, including character development, emotional expression, and stagecraft. Design Thinking concepts and their application in UI/UX design.
Day 1: Theoretical Exploration of Design Thinking
The first day of the workshop, held on 28th January 2025, focused on the theoretical concepts
of Design Thinking. Mr. Jothivelu began the session by introducing the fundamental principles
of Design Thinking, emphasizing its importance in problem-solving and user-centric design.
