The Department of English at S.A. College of Arts & Science hosted the Valediction of the Literary Association – The Renaissance and a heartfelt Farewell for the Batch 2K22 on April 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the SACAS English Hall. The event beautifully celebrated the achievements of the outgoing students and marked the formal closure of the Literary Association’s activities for the academic year.

With the theme “Every farewell is a sunset that always awaits the sunrise,” the program reflected warmth, nostalgia, and hope. Ms. S. Vaishnavi, President of The Renaissance, led the proceedings with enthusiasm and elegance. The event was graced by Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar (Principal), Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi (Director), Mr. M. Thanga Kumaran (Head of the Department), and Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja (Correspondent).

The session was conducted by Lt. Dr. P. Suresh, Assistant Professor, Department of English, DGGD Vaishnav College, Arumbakkam, Chennai. He provided valuable insights into enhancing Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW) skills, essential for academic excellence and IELTS preparation. The lecture covered practical techniques to improve communication, structured writing, and confident speaking. Students gained effective strategies to refine their English proficiency, making the session highly beneficial for academic and professional growth.

Festive Cheer at S.A. College: Christmas Celebrations Spark Joy

The Department of English and the Rotaract Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science celebrated Christmas with grandeur on December 24, 2024, transforming the campus into a hub of festive joy.

A meticulously crafted crib depicting the Nativity scene set a reverent tone, while a group of singers filled the air with enchanting carols. Adding to the celebration’s charm, a vibrant photo booth was set up, attracting students and staff to capture memorable moments of the day.

The event also featured an exciting cake-baking competition, where participants showcased their culinary creativity. The delicious cakes added sweetness to the celebration and highlighted the spirit of friendly competition.

Two lively Santa Clauses further elevated the festivities, spreading cheer and engaging with the crowd. The celebration beautifully embodied the essence of Christmas, fostering unity, joy, and togetherness within the college community.


Department of English theater workshop "The Spotlight - From Script to Stage," on 24.09.2024

Department of English at S A College of Arts & Science hosted a remarkable theater workshop titled "The Spotlight - From Script to Stage," which took place from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM in the SACAS Auditorium. This enriching event was led by Dr. David Wesley Wesley, Assistant Professor at Madras Christian College, Chennai, whose extensive knowledge and passion for theatre captivated participants from the outset.

Designed to enhance understanding of the theatrical process and cultivate self-confidence in public speaking, the workshop attracted a diverse group of students from various disciplines and faculty members, fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment. The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, which beautifully set a respectful and uplifting tone for the day, while the workshop concluded with the National Anthem, leaving participants with a profound sense of unity and pride in their cultural heritage.

Throughout the session, Dr. Wesley’s engaging and interactive presentation covered vital aspects of theatre, including script analysis, character development, and stage presence, all underscored by an emphasis on effective communication. His insightful anecdotes, combined with practical exercises, not only captivated the audience but also transformed the learning experience into a lively and memorable journey of discovery.

The Bookmark Holds 4th Meeting at Digital Library On August 23, 2024, The Bookmark, the Readers' Club of the Department of English, convened its fourth meeting at the Digital Library of S.A. College of Arts & Science. Starting at 2:00 PM, the event, organized by Ms. Logapriya S., featured students and faculty sharing brief insights into their favorite literary works. The meeting, noted for its careful planning and coordination, fostered an engaging discussion on various literary pieces, enhancing the appreciation of literature within the department. The event was well-received and demonstrated the club's commitment to literary exploration and discussion.

Inauguration of Literary Association 'The Renaissance' & Book Release of "Pages of Joy" at S. A. College of Arts & Science, Chennai The Department of English of SACAS celebrated the inauguration of its literary association, 'The Renaissance', the release of the book "Pages of Joy" with an ISBN written by the English Faculty Members, an Orientation Programme and Fresher's Fiesta 2K24. The event featured Dr. J. Jayachandran, Associate Professor of Anna University Kanchipuram Campus, as the chief guest.

The programme began at 10 a.m. in the SACAS Preview Theatre. Dr. S. Ganapathy, Head of Corp. Sec. and Mr. P. Chandrasekar, Head of Comp. Sci. & App. inaugurated 'The Renaissance'. Mr. S. Deepan, Asst. Prof., shared the journey behind "Pages of Joy". Dr. Jayachandran released the book and led an interactive Orientation Programme. Mr. S. Naresh, gave a closing remark. Mr. Thanga Kumaran M., Head of English expressed the pride in the achievement and thanked the gathering. 

The Fresher's Fiesta showcased talents and included games organized by senior students. The events were coordinated by Ms. S. Vaishnavi, the President of The Renaissance and her team.

The programme commenced with a silent prayer, fostering a reflective atmosphere. Farewell was bid to the 2021 graduating batch, with students sharing experiences and faculty offering blessings. Each graduate received a token gift—a file for future use—from faculty members. The Head of the Department articulated his vision and credited the department's collective effort for the achievements. This interdepartmental extravaganza witnessed students from diverse disciplines engaging in a series of competitions ranging from eloquent storytelling to quick-witted word jumbles. Competitions included "Mic's All Yours," "Picture A Poem," "Story Writing," "Word Jumble," "Pictionary," "Talk Show," "Impromptu," "Tongue Twisters," "Lit Quiz," "Spell Bee," and "Art Gallery." From the gripping narratives of "Story Writing" to the creative expressions in "Art Gallery," participants left no stone unturned to exhibit their English proficiency. With fervent enthusiasm and competitive spirit, the event exemplified the college's commitment to nurturing multifaceted talent beyond academic realms.

College of Arts & Science, the inauguration of the theatre club 'The Na Va Ra Saa' unfolded today at the Preview Theatre. This club serves as a vibrant platform for students to immerse themselves in the diverse realms of theatre like acting, directing, scriptwriting, and stage management. The inauguration ceremony received the invaluable support and guidance of Correspondent Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Director Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi, and Principal Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar. Through captivating performances,  students brought classic Shakespearean works to life which showcased their passion and proficiency in the dramatic arts.
