The Department of Psychology hosted a heartfelt Farewell 2K25 to the outgoing batch of students. The event was a beautiful blend of emotions, nostalgia, and celebration, as juniors came together to make the evening special for their beloved seniors.

The farewell kicked off with a warm welcome, setting the stage for an evening filled with exciting performances, fun games, and cherished memories. Faculty members shared inspiring words, acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the final-year students while wishing them success in their future endeavors.

A special token of appreciation was presented to the seniors as a gesture of gratitude, symbolizing the unforgettable bond they share with the department. As laughter and music filled the air, the seniors reflected on their journey, sharing heartfelt experiences that made their time at the college truly special.

The Farewell ended with music, dance, and endless good wishes, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates. The Psychology Department extends its best wishes to the Class of 2025 as they step into a bright future ahead!

Guest Lecture on the Intersection of Mental and Physical Health The Department of Psychology at S.A. College of Arts & Science organized a guest lecture on February 6, 2025, titled "Intersection of Mental Health and Physical Health – A Holistic Approach." Mr. B. Sudhakaran, Assistant Professor of Psychology & Clinical Psychologist from the Government Institute of Mental Health, Kilpauk, served as the resource person.

The session emphasized the mind-body connection, highlighting how stress, anxiety, chronic illness, and lifestyle choices impact overall well-being. Mr. Sudhakaran elaborated on integrated care models, lifestyle interventions, and mind-body therapies like yoga and meditation. The lecture provided valuable insights into achieving holistic health, empowering students to recognize the interconnectedness of mental and physical health for improved well-being.

National Hackathon on Geriatric Care Sparks Innovation and Collaboration at SACAS On February 3, 2025 – The National Hackathon on Geriatric Care through Innovations was successfully organized by the Department of Psychology, S. A. College of Arts & Science at the Auditorium. The event brought together 220 participants from leading institutions such as WCC, Ethiraj, MAHER, RGNIYD, Saveetha, Mahalakshmi, S.A. Engineering, SRM, VIT (Andhra Pradesh), Thevanani College (Villupuram), and Loyola. Additionally, 50 elderly participants actively contributed to the discussions.

The event was graced by esteemed chief guests, including Dr. Republica (RMD Hospitals), Dr. Uma Kalyani (National Institute of Aging), Dr. Shahin Sultana (Pondicherry University), Mr. Santhosh Kumar (Sub-Inspector, Avadi), Dr. Ravi (Professor and Counselling Psychologist), Dr. Suresh (Kasthuruba College for Women), Dr. Udhaya Vani (Dentist, RMD Hospital), Dr. Suresh Sundaram (RGNIYD), Dr. Venkatesh Madhavan (IMH), and Mr. Muthu Krishnan (Help Age India).

The hackathon focused on four key problem statements:

Economic Independence – Empowering the elderly through financial solutions.

Healthcare Accessibility & Affordability – Enhancing medical access for seniors.

Integrated Care Services – Providing seamless geriatric support systems.

Technology & Smart Solutions – Leveraging technology for elderly care.

The event fostered collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and practical solution development. Innovative ideas presented during the hackathon have the potential for real-world implementation.

The National Hackathon on Geriatric Care through Innovations was a resounding success, paving the way for transformative solutions to improve elderly care in India.


Department of Psychology organized a guest lecture on the Psychological Well-being of Persons with Disabilities on 20.1.2025

The Department of Psychology organized a guest lecture on the Psychological Well-being of Persons with Disabilities on 20.1.2025 in our college premises. Mr. A. Amrudhin, a Rehabilitation Officer in the Department of Clinical Psychology, NIEPMD with over a decade of experience, was invited to lead the session. The lecture aimed to shed light on the psychological challenges faced by persons with disabilities and to explore strategies to promote their mental health and overall well-being. The speaker highlighted the multifaceted challenges faced by persons with disabilities, which include: Social Stigma; Physical Barriers; Economic Constraints & Emotional Struggles. The lecture proposed several strategies to enhance the psychological well-being of persons with disabilities which provides Support Systems; Inclusive Policies; Mental Health Services & Education and Awareness.

The guest lecture was eye-opening and thought-provoking which underscored the importance of prioritizing the psychological well-being of persons with disabilities. It inspired the students to adopt a more empathetic and proactive approach to support this community. By fostering an inclusive environment and addressing barriers, society can enable persons with disabilities to thrive and contribute meaningfully to all aspects of life.

The speaker delivered an engaging and informative lecture and made the students to identify the importance of early identification and intervention for children with speech impairment, The signs and symptoms of speech impairment in children. Effective intervention strategies for children with speech impairment, case studies and real-life examples.

  1. Early identification and intervention are critical for children with speech impairment.
  2. Parents, caregivers, and professionals must be aware of the signs and symptoms of speech impairment.
  3. Effective intervention strategies, such as speech therapy and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), can significantly improve communication outcomes

 The institute has modern and well-maintained facilities, including inpatient wards, outpatient clinics, and rehabilitation centers.

 The institute offers a range of services, including:

  • Inpatient care for chronic mental health conditions
  • Outpatient care for acute mental health conditions
  • Rehabilitation programs for patients with mental illness
  • Research programs for mental health studies
  • The institute has a team of experienced and qualified staff, including        

 psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers.

Patients were observed to be receiving comprehensive care, including medication management, therapy sessions, and recreational activities. The institute offers a range of rehabilitation programs, including occupational therapy, speech therapy, and vocational training. 

 Interviews were conducted with staff members, including psychiatrists, psychologists, and nurses. They shared their experiences and insights on mental health care and the services provided by the institute.
