Department of Corporate Secretaryship, organized Department Day on 08.04.2026
The Corporate Governance Professionals’ Association, under the aegis of the Department of Corporate Secretaryship, organized Department Day 2026 On April 8, 2026 . The Chief Guest, Mr. A. Prabu, Project Manager at Chakkaram Foundation, Chennai, delivered an interactive and insightful session on “Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) in Emerging Markets.” The event was compered by Ms. Veronica, Student Director, and Ms. Gopik. The welcome address was delivered by Ms. Lavanya, Council Representative. The Chief Guest was introduced by Ms. Shai Preethi, Vice President, and the vote of thanks was proposed by Ms. Bala Akasaya, Sports Secretary. The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students.
The program commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp, followed by a short audio-visual presentation showcasing the department’s remarkable achievements.
Mr. A. Prabu then delivered an engaging and insightful presentation. He shared his background in Corporate Secretaryship and emphasized the pivotal role of a Company Secretary in an organization. He highlighted the importance of being confident, possessing strong listening skills, and maintaining ethical responsibility. He stressed the need for environmental protection through initiatives such as tree plantation and proper waste management, avoiding disposal in water bodies like ponds and lakes. He also spoke about Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), noting that CSR funds are allocated and governed under the supervision of Company Secretaries. He emphasized the responsible and minimal use of resources to prevent wastage. Addressing social challenges, he pointed out issues related to labor practices, particularly the imbalance in working hours, where employees often work beyond the standard eight hours, leading to poor work-life balance. He also discussed the uneven distribution of industries, which contributes to pollution in certain regions while leaving others underdeveloped. He encouraged students to develop strong leadership qualities, a clear vision, and skills in self-employment and technology. He further spoke about rural empowerment programs and highlighted the growing integration of Artificial Intelligence in sectors such as defense, noting that many such innovations are driven by fresh graduates. He concluded his session by thanking the organization and the department for the opportunity.
Following this, Dr. S. Ganapathy presented the Annual Report. He began by thanking Mr. A. Prabu and the alumni for their presence. He reported that the department had 67 Students as Representative Volunteer for this academic year. He highlighted several successful initiatives, including a school event that attracted around 1,000 registrations and a national-level case study event that received participation from multiple states.
He also mentioned that two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) were signed during the year, including one with Turnip Innovation and another with the Kerala Economic Association. He credited Dr. M. Suresh and Ms. K. Nihaarika for their efforts in facilitating these collaborations. He expressed appreciation to Ms. D. Mathivadhani for her contribution to placements and to Mr. V. Sivaprakasam for successfully organizing over 30 events. He also spoke about key programs such as the Student Knowledge Transformation Program and the Union Budget session, acknowledging the collective efforts of students. He further thanked Ms. D. Mathivadhani for organizing the IIT visit and Dr. Suresh for facilitating the industrial visit to Hatsun Agro Products.
Mr. V. Sivaprakasam then shared a short motivational story reflecting the realities of life, which deeply inspired the students. He also appreciated the faculty for their dedication. Ms. D. Mathivadhani honoured the alumni and students with her words, stating that the forum is open to all students and encouraging them to actively participate. She invited everyone to applaud the students as they received their tokens of appreciation.
The alumni then shared their experiences and insights. One alumna thanked Dr. S. Ganapathy for the invitation and spoke about the transition from college to the corporate world, encouraging students to give their best in all aspects and to make the most of their college life. She also emphasized the importance of learning to say “no” in the corporate environment. Another alumna shared her entrepreneurial journey, highlighting that she built her venture independently without financial support from her parents. Others spoke about the importance of communication, gratitude, and consistency in achieving success. Overall, the alumni session provided valuable real-world perspectives and inspiration to the students.

The event concluded with the members of the Corporate Governance Professionals’ Association being honoured with shields as a token of appreciation for their unwavering contributions to the department and the association.
