The Department of Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence & Data Science, S.A. College of Arts & Science, organised a guest lecture titled “Careers in AI and IT – Beyond Coding” on 9 October 2026 at 2:00 p.m. in the DS Lab. The session was led by Mr. Mahesh P., IT Client Service Manager at IBM, who shared valuable insights into the diverse career opportunities available in the IT industry.

The speaker highlighted career paths beyond programming, emphasising the importance of communication, business analysis and leadership skills. He introduced students to semi-technical roles involving idea development, information customisation and data management. He also explained the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and demonstrated how AI tools can support professional tasks without requiring extensive coding knowledge.

The session explored career opportunities in people management, operations, strategy and leadership. Students also gained insights into the responsibilities of IT architects, including system design, technology selection and security. The speaker discussed global risks, compliance requirements, client relationship management and emerging opportunities in both technical and non-technical IT roles.

The interactive session encouraged students to ask questions and explore different career possibilities. Overall, the guest lecture broadened their understanding of the evolving AI and IT landscape and motivated them to develop the skills needed to succeed in a technology-driven professional world.
