The tournament witnessed the participation of more than many talented players, making Harshini’s achievement a commendable display of talent, dedication, and sporting spirit. Her determination, discipline, and commitment to the sport brought pride to the institution.

The Department of English, S.A. College of Arts & Science, Chennai, organised WHEEL 2026 (Women in Higher Education Empowering English Learning), a State Conclave, on 14 August 2026 at the SACAS Theatre. The conclave focused on the theme, “Reimagining English Studies: Reviving Interest, Rebuilding Enrolment and Redefining Relevance in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
The event served as a meaningful platform to reflect on the future of English studies and the changing needs of learners.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Armstrong, Professor and Head, Department of English, University of Madras. Dr. Supala Pandiarajan, Associate Professor of English, University of Madras, moderated the programme. The panel discussion featured eminent academicians, including Dr. T. Shrimathy Venkatalakshmi, Dr. G. Kalvikkarasi, Dr. S. Sridevi and Dr. K. Kanthimathi.
The panelists strongly emphasised the importance of reading, literature, language proficiency and meaningful engagement with AI. They stressed that students must be taken back to stories to develop interest in literature. They cautioned that reducing literature to summaries could weaken the very foundation of English departments. The need to bring English drama back into classrooms and introduce academic writing at the undergraduate level was also highlighted.
The speakers observed that teachers themselves must continue reading and inspire students to do the same. As emphasised during the discussion, “Learning is hard,” and making learning overly easy can reduce curiosity and intellectual engagement.
The conclave successfully achieved its theme, and the panelists appreciated the Department of English for its efforts in creating a timely and thought-provoking academic platform.

SACAS Inaugurates Literary Association and Inspires English Students.
The Department of English, in association with IQAC and the National Digital Library of India (NDLI), inaugurated its Literary Association, "The Renaissance," on 17 July 2026 at the Preview Theatre, S.A. College of Arts & Science. The programme also featured the release of the department's book, Ink & Infinity, and an orientation session titled "Words that Work: The Career Power of an English Degree."
The event was graced by Dr. Ramana Devika, Assistant Professor of English, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai, as the chief guest. She delivered an inspiring session highlighting the diverse career opportunities available to English graduates and encouraged students to develop strong communication, creativity, and critical thinking skills.
The programme included the formal inauguration of the Literary Association, the book release, and special addresses by the Principal, Directors, and IQAC Coordinator. The event motivated students to pursue literary excellence while preparing for rewarding careers through the study of English.

The Department of English at S.A. College of Arts & Science conducted the eighth meeting of The Bookmark, its Readers' Club, on 29th June 2026 in the Digital Library. The session aimed to encourage regular reading habits, develop literary appreciation, and strengthen critical thinking among students.
The programme began with a welcome address by the club coordinator, Ms. C. Cherryl Malar. Faculty members shared their personal reading experiences, motivating students to explore books with greater interest. Participants presented reviews of their favourite books and literary works, including White Nights, The Catcher in the Rye, Night of the Scorpion, The Emperor's New Clothes, and folktales.
Each presentation was followed by lively discussions, allowing participants to exchange ideas and deepen their understanding of literature. The meeting was convened by Mr. M. Thanga Kumaran, who also delivered the keynote address. The session was engaging, informative, and successfully promoted a lasting interest in reading.

The President of The Renaissance presented a detailed report on the activities and achievements of the association, highlighting a successful year. A special video clip featuring faculty members who had left the college deeply touched everyone present. Both teachers and students shared their heartfelt experiences, making the moment even more meaningful.
The Head of the Department honored sports and cultural achievers of the academic year with tokens of appreciation. The juniors added charm to the event by presenting delightful dance and music performances, creating a joyful atmosphere.

The event beautifully showcased the talent and dedication of BA English students, who brought the classic story to life with impressive acting, expressive dialogue delivery, and graceful stage presence.
The highlight of the event was the presence of guest speaker Mr. S. Aravinth, Actor and Creator. He shared valuable insights on live arts, emphasizing the importance of expression, timing, and connection with the audience. He also spoke about his journey in theatre, acting, and content creation, inspiring students with practical tips and real-life experiences.
