Unlocking the Magic of Words: Translation Workshop at SACAS.
The Department of English at S.A.College of Arts & Science, hosted a lively translation workshop titled “3D: Decode, Deliver, Delight” on August 14, 2025, at the Preview Theatre from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
Dr. Y. John Ilavarasu, Assistant Professor, was the guest speaker. He explained the importance of translation, its principles, and common mistakes with simple, real-life examples.
Fun activities like Decode the Idioms, Emoji Translation Game, Scrambled Words, and a Translation Challenge made the session engaging and educational. Dr. Ilavarasu shared that translation is not easy—it requires creativity and clear understanding.
The event was organised under the guidance of Mr. M. Thanga Kumaran, Head of the Department, and Ms. S. Vaishnavi, President of The Renaissance.
The session was both fun and informative, leaving students with a new appreciation for the art of translation.

A Grand Start: "The Art of Arts" Orientation Programme Welcomes Freshers with Joy and Inspiration at SACAS.
The Department of English at S.A. College of Arts & Science hosted “The Art of Arts”, an Orientation and Freshers' Fiesta 2K25, on August 2 at the auditorium. The event began with Tamilthai Vazhthu and lighting of the Kuthuvilakku, wishing light and knowledge for the year ahead.
Mr. M. Thanga Kumaran, Head of the Department, welcomed everyone and introduced the Chief Guest, Dr. P. Beena, Associate Professor, SDNB Vaishnav College for Women. In her speech, Dr. Beena spoke about the power of language, the importance of communication, reskilling, equality, and success in English literature studies.
The day also saw the launch of the literary association “The Renaissance” and seven student clubs including The Bookmark, The Na Va Ra Saa, The Brainwave, The Hypothesis, The Coffee House, Alumni Insight Series, and Electoral Literacy Club.
The programme ended with a lively Freshers' Fiesta full of music, dance, and games, warmly welcoming the new students.

‘The Bookmark’ Inspires Literary Passion at SACAS
The Department of English at S.A. College of Arts & Science successfully conducted the sixth meeting of its Readers’ Club, The Bookmark, on July 17, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Digital Library. The session aimed to nurture reading habits, literary appreciation, and critical thinking among students.
Ms. R. Divya, the club coordinator, welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of reading in shaping young minds. Mr. Thanga Kumaran, Head of the Department of English, also shared a thought-provoking story and highlighted the significance of listening as a key element of literary engagement and communication.
Faculty members shared personal reading experiences, setting an inspiring tone for the session. Each participant presented a summary of their favorite literary work, discussing key themes, characters, and the impact it had on them.
Open discussions followed, encouraging dialogue, interpretation, and deeper literary understanding among students.

The Department of English at S.A. College of Arts & Science hosted the Valediction of the Literary Association – The Renaissance and a heartfelt Farewell for the Batch 2K22 on April 8, 2025, at 12:00 PM in the SACAS English Hall. The event beautifully celebrated the achievements of the outgoing students and marked the formal closure of the Literary Association’s activities for the academic year.
With the theme “Every farewell is a sunset that always awaits the sunrise,” the program reflected warmth, nostalgia, and hope. Ms. S. Vaishnavi, President of The Renaissance, led the proceedings with enthusiasm and elegance. The event was graced by Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar (Principal), Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi (Director), Mr. M. Thanga Kumaran (Head of the Department), and Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja (Correspondent).
The ceremony was a perfect blend of celebration and emotion, leaving behind cherished memories.

The Department of English and the Rotaract Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science celebrated Christmas with grandeur on December 24, 2024, transforming the campus into a hub of festive joy.
A meticulously crafted crib depicting the Nativity scene set a reverent tone, while a group of singers filled the air with enchanting carols. Adding to the celebration’s charm, a vibrant photo booth was set up, attracting students and staff to capture memorable moments of the day.
The event also featured an exciting cake-baking competition, where participants showcased their culinary creativity. The delicious cakes added sweetness to the celebration and highlighted the spirit of friendly competition.
Two lively Santa Clauses further elevated the festivities, spreading cheer and engaging with the crowd. The celebration beautifully embodied the essence of Christmas, fostering unity, joy, and togetherness within the college community.

Department of English at S A College of Arts & Science hosted a remarkable theater workshop titled "The Spotlight - From Script to Stage," which took place from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM in the SACAS Auditorium. This enriching event was led by Dr. David Wesley Wesley, Assistant Professor at Madras Christian College, Chennai, whose extensive knowledge and passion for theatre captivated participants from the outset.
Designed to enhance understanding of the theatrical process and cultivate self-confidence in public speaking, the workshop attracted a diverse group of students from various disciplines and faculty members, fostering a dynamic and collaborative learning environment. The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vazhthu, which beautifully set a respectful and uplifting tone for the day, while the workshop concluded with the National Anthem, leaving participants with a profound sense of unity and pride in their cultural heritage.
Throughout the session, Dr. Wesley’s engaging and interactive presentation covered vital aspects of theatre, including script analysis, character development, and stage presence, all underscored by an emphasis on effective communication. His insightful anecdotes, combined with practical exercises, not only captivated the audience but also transformed the learning experience into a lively and memorable journey of discovery.

College of Arts & Science. Starting at 2:00 PM, the event, organized by Ms. Logapriya S., featured students and faculty sharing brief insights into their favorite literary works. The meeting, noted for its careful planning and coordination, fostered an engaging discussion on various literary pieces, enhancing the appreciation of literature within the department. Inauguration of Literary Association 'The Renaissance' & Book Release of "Pages of Joy" at S. A. College of Arts & Science, Chennai The Department of English of SACAS celebrated the inauguration of its literary association, 'The Renaissance', the release of the book "Pages of Joy" with an ISBN written by the English Faculty Members, an Orientation Programme and Fresher's Fiesta 2K24. The event featured Dr. J. Jayachandran, Associate Professor of Anna University Kanchipuram Campus, as the chief guest.
The programme began at 10 a.m. in the SACAS Preview Theatre. Dr. S. Ganapathy, Head of Corp. Sec. and Mr. P. Chandrasekar, Head of Comp. Sci. & App. inaugurated 'The Renaissance'. Mr. S. Deepan, Asst. Prof., shared the journey behind "Pages of Joy". Dr. Jayachandran released the book and led an interactive Orientation Programme. Mr. S. Naresh, gave a closing remark. Mr. Thanga Kumaran M., Head of English expressed the pride in the achievement and thanked the gathering.
The Fresher's Fiesta showcased talents and included games organized by senior students. The events were coordinated by Ms. S. Vaishnavi, the President of The Renaissance and her team.
