Department of BCom CA Organizing two-day Workshop on Tools for Analysis & Business Interpretation on 03.10.2024 and 04.10.2024
A two-day workshop called "Tools for Analysis & Business Interpretation" was led by Dr. S. Xavier, who is an Assistant Professor and the Head of the Statistics Department at Loyola College in Chennai. This happened on October 3rd and 4th, 2024.
Purpose of the Workshop
The main goal of the workshop was to give students the important tools they need to do statistical analysis and understand business data. The workshop focused on building a strong base in descriptive and inferential statistics and also gave students practical experience using SPSS software, which is commonly used for data analysis.
Highlights of workshop
During the workshop, Dr. Xavier taught the students basic statistical ideas and how they can be used in real business situations. The main topics covered were:
Descriptive Statistics: Simple measures like mean, median, mode, variance, and standard deviation, focusing on how to understand these in business data.
Inferential Statistics: Covered ideas like hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and regression analysis, giving students the skills to predict and draw conclusions from data.
SPSS Software: A big part of the workshop was about using SPSS for practical tasks. Students learned to enter data, run statistical tests, and understand the results.
Dr. Xavier included practical exercises throughout the workshop, allowing students to use SPSS with their theoretical knowledge. These exercises helped students better understand and feel confident using the software for statistical analysis.
The attendees really enjoyed the workshop and thought it was very useful and interesting. Many said that learning how to use SPSS in a hands-on way was very important and would help them in their studies and jobs. Department of B.Com Computer Applications Extension Program at Old Age Home for Mentally Challenged Elderly Women on 18.09.2024
B.Com Computer Applications students conducted a community awareness program at a old age home located at Porur that provides accommodation to mentally challenged elderly women. This extension program is a collaborative effort where students from all three academic years contributed significantly and demonstrated compassion and social responsibility towards this vulnerable group.
Donation of Essentials
Understanding the needs of the senior citizens, the students donated in the form of collecting essential items such as rice and other essentials. The response over these three years has been extraordinary, with students contributing wholeheartedly to ensure that women are equipped to meet their daily needs. These items are carefully packaged and distributed to the home administration to support the residents' well-being.
Entertainment and Communication
Students brought joy and brightness to the lives of elderly women by organizing cultural events. They brought a series of dances and song. Despite their mental problems, the elderly women have happy faces and applauded the music and efforts of the students. This discussion not only enlightened the people, but also made the students understand how to understand and care for the elderly.
Reflection
This effort and visit is not only about providing necessary things, but also about establishing relationships between students and elderly women. This activity encourages students to experience community service and personal growth. It helps them understand the importance of helping those in need, especially the elderly, who often face isolation and neglect. The joy and gratitude of the residents made the program very rewarding and memorable for all participants.

The extension program promotes the values of care, empathy, and social responsibility among students. It also highlighted the importance of community support for the elderly, particularly those with mental challenges. The contributions made by the students and their time spent with the residents left a lasting impact, making it a significant step toward fostering a more compassionate society.

This happened between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM..

The event began with ceremonial proceedings, a welcome address by Dr. Malathi Selvakumar, Principal of SACAS and Special Address by Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi, Director, SACAS. Mr. Dev Anandh Narayanan, Director of Indian Operations at Haworth India Pvt. Ltd., delivered the keynote, emphasizing the necessity of gender diversity in the workforce and linking women's empowerment to sustainable development goals. He highlighted the importance of equal opportunities and supportive schemes for women in leadership roles.

Awareness Program Presented by ICAI – “Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders” on 10.07.2024

An awareness campaign was held on July 10, 2024, in collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The program's goal was to give participants an understanding of the most recent syllabus revisions as well as the professional course of chartered accountancy. The session was led by the distinguished resource person, C.A. S. Deephika, a respected member of ICAI.The event commenced with an introductory session that highlighted the importance of chartered accounting as a career. C.A. S. Deephika, who has a wealth of experience in the sector and is knowledgeable about the most recent advancements in the industry, was greeted by the host.

Road safety is a safety measure to reduce the risk of road accidents and road side injury because of the mistakes of people while driving on the road. We cannot count the daily road side accidents and death of people because of the driving mistakes and lack of road traffic rules followers. Every person going on the road has risk of injury or death.
A rally on Road Safety Awareness was organized as part of the Road Safety week by Mr.Aswin, NYKS, NYV, Selection Committee member, started the rally, followed by 50 students of B.Com CA from Kaduvetti Government hospital to SACAS and the programme continued by a short speech by Mr Chanramouli Traffic Police Inspector, Poonamalle. in his session he conveyed about Awareness on the road is very important for our safety and safety of others”. He discussed the statistics of various types of road accidents and explained the reasons that lead to these accidents. He further gave examples of various types of traffic violations. The session was very interactive with the students The volunteers were given T- Shirts, Badges and Caps for the rally.
Every year many people lose their life in road accidents in our country. The human cost is immeasurable as is the economic burden it puts on the families of the deceased/injured persons. In such a situation, a collective awakening to road safety is required. Initiatives focused on public education, strengthened enforcement of traffic regulations, and the development of safer infrastructure are crucial to reverse this alarming trend. Towards this objective, Government of India observes National Road Safety Week from 11-17th January every year.
The main purpose of the programme to coordinate with Traffic Police department to provide opportunity for youth to be trained on Road Safety norms. To facilitate collaboration with Traffic police department to enable trained student’s volunteers to become part of traffic management during National Road Safety Week and to Conduct locally relevant intensive road safety awareness activities to enable awareness generation among public.






Celebrate Literacy Day on 08.09.2023
On 8th September 2023, students from Department of B.Com CA participated in an event to celebrate Literacy Day. As part of this event, a group of students, accompanied by teachers, stood on the road near our campus, holding placards with literary quotes, and messages promoting the importance of literature.
The event began at 8:00 a.m. and lasted until 9.00 a.m. The students were divided into several groups, each stationed at strategic points on the road to maximize visibility and engagement with the passing pedestrians and motorists. They displayed creativity and enthusiasm throughout the event, attracting the attention and interest of the general public.
The participants had prepared their own placards, showcasing their knowledge and appreciation for literature. Some placards also highlighted the benefits of reading and literary activities, such as enhancing language skills, broadening knowledge, and fostering creativity.
The students interacted warmly with passersby, engaging in conversations about literature, answering questions, and providing recommendations.
Throughout the event, the students conducted themselves with utmost discipline and responsibility. They adhered to traffic rules, ensuring their presence on the road did not cause any inconvenience or disruption to vehicle flow. Additionally, they maintained a respectful and positive attitude, representing our institution and the spirit of Literacy Day admirably.
The event concluded at 9:00 a.m. with a brief gathering where the participating students shared their experiences and expressed their gratitude to the teachers and organizers for providing them with this platform to celebrate literature.
The event served as a reminder of the importance of literature in our lives and the efforts our institution takes to nurture a love for reading and writing among students.

National Nutrition Week (NNW) is an annual event that aims to promote healthy eating habits and educate individuals about the importance of nutrition in their daily lives. As part of this initiative, II B.com CA participated in a one-day visit to the Madhavaram AAvin dairy industry on September 5th, 2023. The theme for the visit was to discover the power of innovation through an industrial visit.
Arriving at Madhavaram AAvin, we were greeted by the sight of modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art machinery. It was evident that innovation played a significant role in ensuring the efficiency and productivity of the dairy industry. The visit began with a brief introduction to the history of AAvin and its commitment to providing nutritious dairy products to the consumers.
During the visit, we got a chance to witness the various processes involved in the production of dairy products. From the milking of cows to the packaging of the final products, every step was meticulously executed to maintain the quality and freshness of the dairy items. The staff provided valuable insights into the techniques they employed to maximize the nutritional value of the products.
