Exploring India’s Intellectual Heritage – A Transformative IKS Educational Tour of SACAS to Pondicherry & Thanjavur.
The PG Department of Commerce (General), in association with the Central Library of S.A. College of Arts & Science, organized a two-day educational tour on the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) from 13th to 14th February 2025 for Commerce students. The visit covered prominent heritage and research centres including the French Institute of Pondicherry, Brihadeeswarar Temple, Thanjavur Palace Museum, and the Saraswathi Mahal Library, Thanjavur.
The programme was thoughtfully designed to provide academic exposure beyond the classroom and to deepen students’ understanding of India’s intellectual traditions. Students explored rare manuscripts, ancient documentation practices, temple architecture, and historical administrative and economic systems that shaped India’s scholarly heritage.
The tour successfully connected India’s cultural wisdom with modern commerce education, offering a meaningful and enriching learning experience for all participants.

S.A. College Launches NDLI Club to Boost Digital Learning.
The Central Library of S.A. College of Arts & Science organized the NDLI Club Inauguration and User Awareness Program on 10th November 2025 at the SACAS Theatre. The event aimed to promote digital learning and familiarize students with the National Digital Library of India (NDLI) platform.
The program began with a welcome address by the Librarian, followed by an inspiring speech from Mr. K. Venkataramani, Scientist–SF (Retd.), ISRO, who emphasized the role of digital libraries in advancing education and innovation. A live demonstration of the NDLI portal guided students on registration and effective use of digital resources.
Over 150 students actively participated and registered as NDLI Club members. The session enhanced awareness of digital learning tools and strengthened collaboration between the library and academic departments. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks to all contributors.

Librarian’s Day Celebrated with Inspiring Talk on Competitive Exam Preparation at SACAS On 11th August 2025, the Central Library of S.A. College of Arts & Science, in collaboration with Anna Centenary Library, organized a Special Talk on “Basic Preparation for Competitive Exams” at the SACAS Auditorium. The event, held in celebration of Librarian’s Day, honored the legacy of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan.
Two distinguished speakers, Mr. S. Raju and Mr. S. Manikandan from Anna Centenary Library, led the session. They shared practical tips on exam strategies, time management, essential study resources, and effective use of libraries and e-resources.
Around 400 students, faculty, and aspirants actively participated, finding the session insightful and motivational. The talk served not only as a tribute to librarians but also as a valuable guide for students aiming for success in competitive exams. It highlighted the evolving role of libraries as vital hubs for academic growth and skill development.

Chennai, July 22, 2025 – The Library of S.A. College of Arts & Science has officially entered into an Institutional Membership with the prestigious Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram, Chennai – 85. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on July 22, 2025, in the esteemed presence of Dr. S. Kamatchi and Dr. S. Santhankarthikeyan, Chief and Deputy Librarians of Anna Centenary Library.
This landmark collaboration will give students and faculty members of SACAS access to one of Asia’s largest libraries, offering a vast collection of books, digital resources, research materials, and reference services.

Library Induction Programme Empowers First-Year Students at SACAS
The Central Library of S.A. College of Arts & Science, in collaboration with SALIS (Society for the Advancement of Library and Information Science), organized a User Induction cum Information Literacy Programme on 11th July 2025 at the SACAS Auditorium.
The session was held from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM, was conducted for first-year students to enhance their understanding of library resources, digital platforms, and research skills. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. G. Muruganandham, Librarian of SACAS. Dr. M. Mani, Librarian, D.G. Vaishnav College, served as the resource person and delivered an engaging talk on information literacy, ethical use of resources, and digital navigation.
A live demonstration on accessing e-resources and referencing tools was also conducted. The interactive session laid a strong foundation for students to become independent, responsible information users and lifelong learners.

எஸ்.ஏ. கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரியின் நூலகத்துறை, தமிழ்த்துறை மற்றும் இந்திய அறிவு அமைப்பு ஆகியவை இணைந்து 'புத்தகம் வாசிப்பும் நேசிப்பும்' என்ற தலைப்பில் சிறப்புச் சொற்பொழிவை பிப்ரவரி 12, 2025 அன்று கல்லூரிக் கலையரங்கில் நடத்தின. ஆரோக்கியமான புதிய சிந்தனைகளை வளர்ப்பதற்கும், புதியனவற்றைக் கற்றுக் கொள்வதற்கும், புதிய கண்டுபிடிப்புகளுக்கும் தேவை நல்லதொரு புத்தக வாசிப்புப் பயிற்சி. இத்தகைய நல்ல நூல்களைத் தேடிப் படித்து, மாணவர்களின் வாசிப்புப் பழக்கத்தை மேம்படுத்துவதனை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டு இந்நிகழ்ச்சி ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்டது. இந்நிகழ்ச்சியின் சிறப்பு விருந்தினராக மேலசிவபுரி கணேசர் கலை மற்றும் அறிவியல் கல்லூரியின் மேனாள் நூலகரும், நூலகம் மற்றும் தகவல் அறிவியல் துறை மேனாள் துறைத்தலைவருமான முனைவர் ந. முருகேச பாண்டியன் கலந்துகொண்டு சிறப்பித்தார். தமிழ்த்துறை உதவிப் பேராசிரியர் திரு. க. வீரராகவன் விழாவுக்கு வந்தோரை வரவேற்று வரவேற்புரை வழங்கினார். தமிழத்துறை இணைப் பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் ஈ. இசக்கியம்மாள் சிறப்பு விருந்தினரை அவைக்கு அறிமுகம் செய்து வைத்தார். தமிழ்த்துறைத் தலைவர் திரு. மா. விஜயகுமார் சிறப்பு விருந்தினருக்குப் பொன்னாடை அணிவித்துச் சிறப்புச் செய்தார்.
தொடர்ந்து கற்றல் என்பது நம்மை என்றும் உயிர்ப்புடன் வைத்திருக்கக் கூடியது; இன்பம் பயக்கக்கூடியது; சமூகத்தில் நம்மை நிலைநிறுத்தக்கக் கூடியது என்பதனைப் பல இலக்கியச் சான்றுகளையும், பல நூல்களையும் எடுத்துரைத்துப் புத்தக வாசிப்பின் முக்கியத்துவத்தைச் சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் வலியுறுத்தினார். நிகழ்ச்சியின் நிறைவாகத் தமிழ்த்துறை உதவிப் பேராசிரியர் முனைவர் பா.விக்னேஷ் குமார் நன்றியுரை வழங்கினார். இந்நிகழ்ச்சி தமிழ்த்துறை உதவிப் பேராசிரியர் திருமதி அ. விஜயலட்சுமி அவர்களின் தொகுப்புரையுடன், தமிழ்த்துறை உதவிப் பேராசிரியர்கள் திரு. க. வீரராகவன் மற்றும் ம. ரம்யா ஆகியோரை ஒருங்கிணைப்பாளர்களாகக் கொண்டு மிகச் சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது.

The Central Library organized a highly enlightening event on 24th January 2025, featuring Dr. M. Palaniappan, Assistant Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Periyar University, Salem, as the guest speaker. The event was attended by all students and faculty members of the Department of Computer Science and Computer Application, who actively participated in this insightful session.
Dr. M. Palaniappan delivered a thought-provoking presentation on the topic “Adopting the Indian Knowledge System within the Broader Framework of the Importance of Libraries Beyond AI.” His PowerPoint presentation highlighted the significance of integrating traditional Indian knowledge systems into modern academic and professional landscapes, emphasizing the enduring role of libraries as hubs of learning and innovation even in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The session opened with an introduction to the Indian Knowledge System (IKS), showcasing its deep roots in various domains such as mathematics, medicine, astronomy, and philosophy. Dr. Palaniappan elaborated on how the wealth of ancient Indian texts and manuscripts can offer fresh perspectives to contemporary research and innovation.
He then transitioned to discussing the importance of libraries in preserving, curating, and disseminating knowledge across generations. In an era where AI dominates many aspects of information retrieval and management, Dr. Palaniappan emphasized that libraries continue to play a critical role as spaces for community interaction, intellectual engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The event was well-received, leaving participants inspired to explore the intersection of traditional knowledge, modern technology, and the enduring significance of libraries. மாதந்தோறும் நடைபெற உள்ள இந்நிகழ்ச்சியின் முதல் நிகழ்வாகப் பாரதியார் கவிதைகள் மற்றும் பாரதிதாசன் கவிதைகள் ஆகிய இரண்டு நூல்களை எட்டு மாணவர்கள் விமர்சனம் செய்து உரை நிகழ்த்தினர். பாரதியார், பாரதிதாசன் ஆகியோர் கவிதைகளில் மூழ்கி முத்தெடுத்த சிந்தனைகளை அவையின் முன்வைத்தனர். சிறப்பு விருந்தினர் மாணவர்களின் நூல் விமர்சனத்தை மகிழ்ச்சியாகக் கேட்டு ரசித்ததோடு, நூலின் முக்கியத்துவம், வாசிப்புப் பழக்கத்தால் உண்டாகும் அறிவு நுகர்வு, நூல்களை வாசித்துத் தாம் பெற்ற நுண்ணறிவு ஆகியவற்றை மாணவர்களின் முன் பகிர்ந்து, பல்துறை நூல்களைப் படிப்பதற்கு மாணவர்களை வலியுறுத்தினார். பல நூல்களைப் பயின்று மிகச்சிறந்த கற்றல் அனுபவத்தைப் பெற மிகப்பெரும் உந்துசக்தியைத் தருவதாக இந்நிகழ்ச்சி அமைந்தது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

National Librarian Day Celebration at SACAS Auditorium On 12th August 2024, the Central Library of SACAS organized a grand celebration in honor of National Librarian Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of the esteemed Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, often revered as the father of library science in India. The event, held at the SACAS Auditorium, witnessed an impressive turnout, with around 450 students actively participating.
Theme: Importance of Promoting Good Reading Habits among Students
The occasion was graced by the presence of the esteemed chief guest, Mr. K. Venkataramani, a retired Scientist-SF from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Sriharikota. Known for his vast experience and contributions to India's space missions, Mr. Venkataramani provided an engaging and insightful address to the attendees.
Mr. Venkataramani commenced his speech by giving the audience a fascinating overview of ISRO's activities, including its pioneering space missions and the dedication of its scientists toward advancing India's space capabilities. He shared inspiring stories from his career, shedding light on the importance of perseverance, curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge.
In alignment with the event's theme, Mr. Venkataramani emphasized the vital role that reading plays in shaping the minds of young students.
