Department of Nutrition, Food Service Management and Dietetics, S.A. College of Arts & Science, organized a community outreach programme on 07 August 2026 at eight Anganwadi Centres.

The Department students visited the Anganwadi centres and conducted nutrition education sessions for nearly 100 beneficiaries, with a special focus on promoting breastfeeding awareness. The sessions highlighted the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, continued breastfeeding along with complementary feeding, maternal nutrition, and appropriate infant and young child feeding practices. Students used informative charts, posters, and interactive discussions to effectively communicate key messages and address common misconceptions related to breastfeeding.

The programme aimed to enhance awareness among mothers and caregivers, encourage optimal breastfeeding practices, and emphasize the vital role of nutrition during the first 1,000 days of life. The outreach initiative successfully reached the community, strengthened health awareness, and reinforced the Department’s commitment to promoting maternal and child nutrition through community-based education.
