SA College of Arts and Science Hosts Intensive Five-Day VFX Training Programme for Visual Communication Students

The Department of Visual Communication at SA College of Arts and Science successfully conducted a comprehensive five-day Value Added Course on Visual Effects (VFX). Held from 8–12 December 2025, the programme was designed to provide students with in-depth exposure to the rapidly evolving VFX industry, blending theoretical understanding with practical, hands-on learning experiences.

Day 1 commenced with an industry-oriented introduction, during which the invited expert presented his showreel and explained key concepts such as VFX, special effects, 2D/3D animation, and CGI. A screening of Kung Fu Panda allowed students to observe animation principles closely, followed by an advanced session that covered the complete animation pipeline—from previz and techviz to post-viz and script-to-screen development.

Day 2 explored the post-production pipeline and essential 3D fundamentals. Students were introduced to the DI process, final output preparation, and core VFX tasks including rotoscoping, paint, prep, matchmove, and keying. The day concluded with an overview of major 3D software and their industry applications, demonstrating how raw footage is transformed into polished visual content.

Day 3 highlighted illusion craft and design principles. The first session covered industry-standard VFX software and practical use cases. This was followed by a detailed module on Adobe tools, connecting graphic design and motion graphics workflows. The final session featured select scenes from Enthiran 2.0, giving students insight into the processes behind large-scale Indian VFX productions.

Day 4 focused on compositing techniques and emerging AI-driven workflows. Students were trained in tracking, matchmove, rotomation, keying, and multipass compositing. A special session on the making of 2.0 offered valuable exposure to on-set supervision, shot planning, and technical execution. The day ended with a discussion on AI-based video generation and its increasing influence on modern filmmaking.

Day 5 centred on practical training. Students first learned the theory of greenscreen production, followed by a hands-on greenscreen shoot and compositing practice. The concluding interactive forum enabled students to seek personalised guidance on career paths, software skills, and industry expectations.

The programme received an overwhelmingly positive response from participants. Many students personally shared their appreciation, stating that the sessions provided clarity, confidence, and deeper insight into the future of VFX and digital media.

The event, held at 3:00 p.m., witnessed an enthusiastic turnout of students and faculty members. TTF Vasan interacted with the audience, speaking about his experiences in digital media, the challenges of content creation, and the importance of responsible online engagement. He also encouraged students to explore opportunities in the rapidly expanding digital entertainment sector.

SACAS Viscom Department Hosts Five-Day Film Appreciation Workshop with FTII, Pune.

The Department of Visual Communication, S.A College of Arts & Science organized a five-day workshop titled “An Art Beyond the Screen: An Introduction to Film Appreciation” from 17 to 21 November 2025, in collaboration with Film and Television Institute of India(FTII), Pune. The event began with a warm welcome address by Dr. Srinivasan, Head of the Department, followed by an overview of the programme by Viscom Director Prof. R. D. Balaji.

The workshop featured expert sessions by Dr. Milind Dhamle, Associate Professor, ETV Production; cinematographer Thiru P. Narayana; and renowned sound engineer Anthony Ruban, known for his work in Madras, Kaala, and Kabali. A total of 43 students, including 8 external participants from across India, took part.

The sessions focused on film history, key elements of cinema, cinematography, sound engineering, and essential industry jargon. The workshop concluded with an inspiring address by Correspondent Thiru P. Venkatesh Raja, followed by certificate distribution. The department expressed gratitude to the Principal, Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar and Director, Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi for their constant support.

The Department of Visual Communication of S.A. College of Arts & Science organized a workshop titled “Design and Web” on 30th November 2025 at the SACAS Theatre. The session was led by Mr. N. R. Suresh Babu, Creative Director at Zoho Corporation, who shared his inspiring journey from a signboard artist to a design expert.

Mr. Suresh Babu discussed the importance of typography, branding, UX/UI design, and creativity in the digital era. He emphasized research-based design, aesthetic presentation, and originality as key elements for success. With over 25 years of experience, he shared real-world case studies from projects with global brands like DreamWorks, AOL, Winamp, and Zoho Survey.

The workshop gave students valuable insights into the design industry, bridging the gap between classroom learning and professional practice. It inspired participants to approach creativity with passion, discipline, and innovation.

SACAS Visual Communication Hosts Seminar on Fact-Checking in the Digital Era.

The Department of Visual Communication at S.A. College of Arts & Science, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Fact Check Unit (FCU), Government of Tamil Nadu, organized a seminar on “Fact-Checking in the Digital Era: Building Responsible Media Citizens.”

The event opened with a welcome address by Dr. Srinivasan, Head of the Department, followed by introductions by Prof. Shridevi. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Iyan Karthikeyan, Mission Director, TN Fact Check Unit, who shared field experiences on combating misinformation and the growing importance of fact-checking in today’s media landscape.

Coordinated by Dr. Sheik Mohamed, the seminar featured active participation from students, with Amritha (III B.Sc. Visual Communication) as MC and Dr. Kamna Kandpal delivering the vote of thanks. The department expressed gratitude to the management, faculty, and students whose contributions made the seminar a resounding success.


SACAS Golu Celebration on 25.09.2025

The Department of HS-NFSMD and Visual Communication (Viscom) organized Day 3 of the SACAS Golu Celebration on 24th September 2025 at the SACAS Auditorium. The event harmoniously blended tradition, devotion, and wisdom, while linking to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). The program began with pooja arrangement and devotional songs was by students Pavithra and Harini (HS-NFSMD) and Amrita (Viscom), fostering unity and emotional well-being, reflecting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). A key highlight was the Himalayas miniature set, creatively designed by HS-NFSMD students, symbolizing the ecological and spiritual significance of the Himalayas. This display emphasized SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). The celebration illustrated how the Indian Knowledge System promotes sustainable living by uniting devotion, ecological reverence, and cultural creativity. Overall, the event successfully combined tradition with modern values, reinforcing sustainability and cultural pride.

The Department of Visual Communication, S.A. College of Arts & Science , successfully hosted a One-Day International Workshop on “AI Avatar” on 12th September 2025 in hybrid mode at the CG Lab, with live YouTube streaming for global reach.
Mr. Vigneshwar V G, AI Enthusiast and Digital Creator from New Zealand, delivered an engaging session on AI-driven avatar creation and its applications in gaming, VR, education, and healthcare. Over 100 students participated in interactive demonstrations and hands-on assignments. The workshop enhanced their technical skills, encouraged innovation, and provided valuable international exposure, making it a resounding success.
