Sacas Golu Celebration on 26.09.2025

The fifth day of the Golu Celebration was successfully organized by the Department of Commerce General, the Department of Mathematics, and the Placement Cell, integrating the theme with the Indian Knowledge System. The event highlighted the ‘Evolution of Banking’ through an innovative display that traced the journey of financial practices from traditional barter systems to the digital banking era, showcasing how India’s ancient wisdom continues to influence modern economic frameworks. A special attraction was the miniature representation of a Balance Sheet, creatively designed by students to illustrate the fundamentals of accounting in a simple yet effective manner. This exhibit emphasized the importance of financial literacy in today’s world and its direct link to sustainable economic growth. The celebration not only blended tradition with modern knowledge but also encouraged students to connect academic learning with cultural values, aligning with the holistic vision of the Indian Knowledge System and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Mathelets Club organized an Inter Collegiate event MATH MAESTRO commenced with a welcome Address by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of Mathematics, and a special recognition of the Chief Guest, Mr.BalaChandar Sundarmoorthy Financial SAP Assistant TCS Chennai, Tamil Nadu, followed by the Special lecture along with 4 events conducted by our SACAS alumni Mathelets club members as an event Judge.Total no.of participants 183. Overall Trophy won by Loyola college and Cash prizes given to the winners and runners .
The event received unwavering support from the Correspondent Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Director Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi and Principal Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar reaffirming the institution's commitment to promoting the department events.

SACAS Celebrates Pi Approximation Day with Insightful Session and Student Activities
The Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the Mathelets Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science, organized Pi Approximation Day on July 18, 2025, at the college premises.
The event commenced with a warm welcome and the introduction of the Chief Guest by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics. The highlight of the day was an engaging and informative session by Dr. Dhanalakshmi K., Assistant Professor at SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Kattankulathur. She delivered a thought-provoking talk on the historical and practical use of fractions in Pi approximation, emphasizing the significance of Pi as a fundamental constant in mathematics.
The session enhanced students' understanding of Pi and its real-world applications. A poster presentation competition was also conducted, encouraging student participation and creativity. The event was both educational and inspiring for all attendees.

SACAS Celebrates National Statistics Day with Insightful Session on Business Statistics
The Department of Mathematics, S.A. College of Arts & Science, in association with the Mathelets Club, organized National Statistics Day on 30th June 2025 at the college premises. The event began with a warm welcome address and the introduction of the Chief Guest by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics.
The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking session by Dr. A. Indumathi, Assistant Professor at DRBCCC Hindu College, who delivered an insightful talk on the Foundations of Business Statistics Tools for Data-Driven Decisions. Her session helped students understand the practical importance of statistics in business and analytics.
Certificates were distributed to winners of the Dumb Charades competition by the chief guest.

The Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Mathelets Club organized a Pi Day 2025 on March 13th , 2025. The event commenced with a welcome Address by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of Mathematics, and a special recognition of the Chief Guest, Dr. S. Devi Yamini, Assistant Professor, School of Advances Sciences (Mathematics) at VIT University, Vandalur-Kelambakkam Road, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Followed by the Special lecture given by the Chief Guest to the students on the topic, ”CELEBRATING π : THE INFINITE MARVEL OF CIRCLES ”. She fecilitates the prize winners for Mathelets Club Activity Mathwiz show down.

Mathelets Club Investiture Ceremony & Anti-Drug Awareness Programme on 04.02.2025
The Department of Mathematics at S.A. College of Arts & Science, in association with the Mathelets Club, successfully organized the Mathelets Club Investiture Ceremony & Anti-Drug Awareness Program on February 4, 2025. The event began with a Welcome Address and Annual Report by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of Mathematics. The esteemed speaker, Dr. R. Muthucumaraswamy, Dean (Research) and Professor & Head, Sri Venkateswara Engineering College, delivered an insightful speech on Anti-Drug Awareness and highlighted the applications of Mathematics. He also facilitated the new office bearers of the Mathelets Club with badges and distributed prizes to the winners of the Mathwiz Showdown. The event was graced by the Correspondent, Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Director, Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi, and Principal, Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to mathematical excellence and social responsibility. The program concluded on a high note, inspiring students towards academic growth and a drug-free future.

The Department of Mathematics in association with the Mathelets Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science organized a State level Inter- Collegiate Event “MATH MASTERO-2024” and Math Talk “Role of Mathematics & Statistics in Artificial Intelligence” on National Mathematics Day, 20th December 2024. The Welcome Address was given by Dr. G.Ambika, HoD of Mathematics and Honouring the Chief Guest. The esteemed speaker of the day, Dr. R.Kavitha , Assistant Professor, Chevalier T.Thomas Elizabeth College For
Women, Chennai 11 provided a platform for students to creative skills in the field of Mathematics & Statistics and highlighted Recent Trends. Totally 217 students participated including 15 other institutions. The winners and runners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates. Department of Mathematics Celebrated Pi Approximation Day 2024 on 22.07.2024
Pi Approximation Day 2024 Celebrated at SACAS On July 22, 2024, the Department of Mathematics at S.A. College of Arts & Science, in collaboration with the Mathelets Club, hosted a vibrant celebration of Pi Approximation Day. The event commenced with a warm Welcome Address by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of Mathematics, and a special recognition of the Chief Guest, Dr. A. Meenakshi, Professor at Vel Tech Rangarajan Dr. Sagunthala R&D Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai. Dr. Meenakshi highlighted the diverse applications of Pi, providing a platform for students to demonstrate their research and creative skills in Mathematics & Statistics. The day included a competitive Poster Presentation, drawing participation from 50 teams and fostering a spirit of innovation and collaboration. The event concluded with accolades presented by Correspondent Thiru. P. Venkatesh Raja, supported by Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi and Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar, reaffirming the institution's commitment to academic excellence.







Pi Approximation Day 2023
The Department of Mathematics in association with the Mathelets club organised a poster presentation competition held on 21st July 2023 to celebrate Pi Approximation Day. The aim of this event is promoting mathematical understanding and creativity among students.
The ceremony took place in the SACAS Preview Theatre. The event began with a welcome address by Dr. S. Prathap, the head of the department, who expressed gratitude to everyone for their presence and support.
The poster presentations were focused on various methods and approaches to approximate the value of pi. Each participant was given a designated area to display their poster, and they had the opportunity to explain their research and findings to the attendees. The panel of judges, consisted of experienced faculty members. Dr. Viji R, Director, School of Management and Dr. S. Ganapathy, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Corporate Secretaryship evaluated the posters based on the criteria such as accuracy, clarity, and innovation.
After careful consideration, the winners were announced and awarded with prizes. The first prize was won by Vimalendhiren A R, III B.Sc. (NFSM&D), the second prize was won by Harish K II B.Com. CA, and Dharshan Abraham II B.Com. CA. The third-prize was won by Deepika M, II B.Com. Gen, and Gopika K II B.Com. Gen. The winner were awarded with shields and certificates for their outstanding work. Additionally all the participants received honorable mentions for their efforts.
The winners of Mathwiz Showdown-2023 are, Vimalendhiren A R, III B.Sc (NFSM&D), Ashwin A B , III B.Sc. Psychology and Kavya Shree M J II B.Sc. (NFSM&D) and Akshayaa S II B.Sc. (NFSM&D). They bagged the first three prizes respectively. Overall championship was B.Sc. (NFSM&D).
The ceremony also included speeches from distinguished guests who commended the participants for their dedication and hard work in exploring the fascinating world of pi approximation. They emphasized the importance of mathematics in various fields and encouraged students to continue pursuing their passion for numbers.
The valuable feedback of the judges will undoubtedly help the participants improve their mathematical skills.
The prize distribution ceremony of the Mathwiz Showdown and the poster presentation event celebrated for the Pi Approximation Day were highly successful. It provided a platform for students to showcase their research and creative skills in the field of mathematics. We hope to continue organizing such events in the future to foster a love for numbers and promote mathematical excellence.
