The Department of Mathematics, S.A. College of Arts & Science, organised the Mathletes Club Investiture Ceremony and a guest lecture on “Applications of Mathematics in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science” on 9 October 2026 at 10:30 a.m. at the MBA Learning Centre.
The programme featured Dr. V. Madhusudanan, Professor, Department of Mathematics, S.A. Engineering College, as the guest speaker. He highlighted the vital role of mathematics in emerging technologies and explained how concepts such as algebra, calculus, probability and statistics form the foundation of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Science.
The lecture offered students practical insights into the applications of mathematics in data analysis, predictive modelling and intelligent systems. It also emphasised the importance of analytical thinking, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills in technological innovation. Students gained a better understanding of the growing career opportunities at the intersection of mathematics and technology.
The Mathletes Club Investiture Ceremony encouraged students to participate actively in mathematical activities and develop collaboration, creativity and innovation. Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics, served as the convenor of the programme.
The event highlighted the relevance of mathematics in the digital era and inspired students to explore its applications in emerging technological fields.

The Department of Mathematics, S.A. College of Arts & Science, in association with the Mathelets Club, organized a hands-on workshop titled “Canva Design Essentials” on 28th September 2026 at 12.30 p.m. at the CS Lab
This workshop is designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of Canva, a widely used digital design platform, and to provide practical exposure to creating visually appealing digital content. The hands-on nature of the programme enabled participants to learn design concepts through practical activities and demonstrations.
The resource persons for the workshop were Mr. Gamaliel S, Assistant Professor, Department of Viscom, SACAS, and Ms. Harini T, Technical Instructor, Department of Viscom, SACAS. They guided the participants through essential Canva tools and design techniques, providing practical insights into effective digital content creation.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. M. Arunma, Assistant Professor & Convenor, Department of Mathematics in association with Mathelets Club. This initiative provided students with an opportunity to develop their creativity and digital design skills, which can be applied in academic presentations, posters, social media content and other communication activities.
The workshop reflected the institution’s commitment to promoting skill-based and interdisciplinary learning, enabling students to complement their academic knowledge with relevant digital skills.

The Department of Mathematics, in association with the Mathelets Club, S.A. College of Arts & Science, organized an Inter-Department Digital Poster Presentation Competition on the occasion of Pi Approximation Day on 31 July 2026. Around 30 students enthusiastically participated in the event, showcasing their creativity and mathematical knowledge.
Dr. K. Jamberi, Head of the Department of BCA, served as the judge for the competition. Participants confidently presented their digital posters, explained their innovative concepts, and demonstrated their Canva design skills. The presentations highlighted the significance of the mathematical constant Pi and explored the growing role of Mathematics in the field of Artificial Intelligence.
The competition provided students with an excellent platform to combine creativity, technology, and mathematical concepts while enhancing their presentation and communication skills. The event concluded successfully with the support of Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Correspondent; Dr. K.S. Prabakar, Director (Administration & CDC); and Dr. S. Anbalagan, Principal, reflecting the institution's continued commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary learning.

The Department of Mathematics, S.A. College of Arts & Science (SACAS), in association with the Career Development Cell (CDC) and IQAC, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nanyang Institute of Management (NIM), Singapore, on 2 July 2026 at the college campus. The initiative was taken under the guidance and support of Thiru P. Venkatesh Raja, Correspondent, reflecting the institution's commitment to strengthening global academic partnerships. Dr. S. Anbalagan, Principal, introduced the chief guests, while Dr. K. S. Prabakar, Director – CDC & Admin, delivered the special address. The MoU aims to promote academic and research collaboration through faculty and student exchange, learning opportunities, and the sharing of academic resources. Mr. Raymond Khoo, Vice President, Student Recruitment, Admission and Student Services, and Ms. Tanny Htet Htet, Deputy Director, Student Recruitment and Admission, NIM, conducted an awareness session on higher education opportunities in Singapore. The Department of Mathematics of S.A. College of Arts & Science, in association with the Mathelets Club, celebrated National Statistics Day on 29 June 2026. The programme commenced with a welcome address and an introduction of the chief guest by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics. The resource person, Prof. Sukumar Kumar, Founder of Kumar Mangalam Solutions, educator, and motivational speaker, delivered an inspiring session on the significance of Mathematics in competitive examinations such as IIT-JAM, CSIR, IISER, TIFR, IISC, and NISER. He encouraged students to prepare for national-level competitive examinations after graduation and inspired them to pursue careers in scientific research and contribute to nation-building. The session provided valuable insights, effective preparation strategies, and motivation to excel in higher studies and research. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. S. Radha. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and served as an excellent platform to enhance their analytical and problem-solving abilities.
The quiz was designed to evaluate students’ knowledge, aptitude, and potential to perform effectively in various academic and practical tasks. It also aimed to highlight the importance of statistics in everyday life, decision-making, and career development. Through active participation, students gained valuable insights that contribute to personal growth and professional excellence.

Pi Day Celebrated by Department of Mathematics at SACAS
The Department of Mathematics, S.A. College of Arts & Science, in association with the Mathelets Club, organised a Pi Day celebration on 12 March 2026 on the college campus. The programme began with a warm welcome address and the presentation of the Mathelets Club Annual Report by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics.
The highlight of the event was the special address delivered by the guest speaker, Mr. Naveen Kumar, Research Assistant at VIT, Vellore. He spoke on the topic “Importance of Mathematics in Real Life” and explained how mathematical concepts play a vital role in everyday decision-making, scientific development, and technological progress.
During the programme, the guest speaker facilitated the newly elected office bearers of the Mathelets Club with badges and distributed mementos to the existing members in recognition of their contributions.

MATH MASTERMIND–2026 Sparks Young Minds at S.A. College of Arts & Science
The Department of Mathematics, in association with the Mathelets Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science, successfully organized an Inter-School Event titled “MATH MASTERMIND–2026” on 07th January 2026, marking a special academic celebration. The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics, followed by the honouring of the Chief Guest.
The esteemed speaker of the day, Mrs. T. V. Manamalli, Principal of Jaya Jaya Sankara International CBSE School, Chennai, addressed the students and highlighted how mathematics develops cognitive skills, creativity, analytical ability, and logical thinking, supporting both academic excellence and effective decision-making.
A total of 323 students from 15 schools participated enthusiastically. Four events—Math Quiz, Math Connection, Math Models, and Math Fun Games—were conducted. Winners and runners were awarded cash prizes. The event was held successfully with the strong support of the Correspondent Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Director Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi, and Principal Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to promoting the importance of Mathematics.

Celebrating Numbers and Knowledge: National Mathematics Day at SACAS
The Department of Mathematics, in association with the Mathelets Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science, organized a Mathematics Awareness Rally and a Guest Lecture to mark National Mathematics Day on 22nd December 2025. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics. The Chief Guest, Mr. Kashif Ahmed, Regional Manager – Campus Relations, SHL India Pvt. Ltd., was formally honoured on the occasion.
Mr. Kashif Ahmed, in his inspiring lecture, emphasized the vital role of Mathematics in enhancing logical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and aptitude skills essential for academic and professional success. He encouraged students to explore creativity through mathematical concepts. The Mathematics Awareness Rally further highlighted the importance of Mathematics in daily life.

Sacas Golu Celebration on 26.09.2025

The fifth day of the Golu Celebration was successfully organized by the Department of Commerce General, the Department of Mathematics, and the Placement Cell, integrating the theme with the Indian Knowledge System. The event highlighted the ‘Evolution of Banking’ through an innovative display that traced the journey of financial practices from traditional barter systems to the digital banking era, showcasing how India’s ancient wisdom continues to influence modern economic frameworks. A special attraction was the miniature representation of a Balance Sheet, creatively designed by students to illustrate the fundamentals of accounting in a simple yet effective manner. This exhibit emphasized the importance of financial literacy in today’s world and its direct link to sustainable economic growth. The celebration not only blended tradition with modern knowledge but also encouraged students to connect academic learning with cultural values, aligning with the holistic vision of the Indian Knowledge System and the Sustainable Development Goals.
