S.A. College of Arts & Science celebrated Independence Day on 15 August 2026 with great patriotic spirit and enthusiasm. The programme commenced with a warm welcome extended to the Chief Guest by the SACAS Band students and the students of the college. The national flag was hoisted by Thiru. V. K. Venkataramani, Corporate Mentor, followed by a march past by the SACAS students and the Band Team. The celebrations continued with a Tamil patriotic song presented by the students. Thiru. V. K. Venkataramani delivered the Presidential Address, highlighting the significance of Independence Day. Jayasri S. from B.Com A&F delivered the welcome address and proposed the vote of thanks. The cultural programme featured vibrant Tamil and Hindi dance performances by the students, adding colour and enthusiasm to the occasion. The arrangements for the programme were coordinated by Dr. Ramakirshnan, DPE, Mr. R. Haribabu, Assistant DPE, and Ms. Devapriya, Assistant DPE.

The Department of Psychology, S.A. College of Arts and Science, conducted a Study Skills Training Programme at Padma Subramaniam Bala Bhavan Higher Secondary School on 29 June 2026. The training was conducted by a faculty member from the Department of Psychology, with the objective of helping school students develop effective study habits and improve their academic learning strategies.

The session focused on essential study skills such as time management, effective planning, concentration, goal setting, note-taking, memory enhancement, revision strategies, and managing academic stress. The students were encouraged to identify suitable learning methods and develop a structured approach to their studies. Practical strategies were discussed to help students make their study time more productive and maintain consistency in their academic preparation.

Six students from the Department of Psychology observed the entire session, gaining valuable practical exposure to the planning and delivery of a student-oriented training programme. Their observation helped them understand how psychological concepts and learning strategies can be effectively applied in an educational setting.

The programme provided a meaningful learning experience for both the school students and the observing psychology students, highlighting the role of psychology in promoting effective learning, academic well-being, and healthy study practices.

The Department of Psychology, S.A. College of Arts and Science, organized a guest lecture on “Basic Counselling Skills” on 10 July 2026, with Dr. Ananthi Karthik as the resource person. The session was organized to provide students with a practical understanding of the fundamental skills required for effective counselling.

The session focused on essential counselling skills such as active listening, empathy, effective communication, rapport building, questioning, observation, reflection, paraphrasing, summarising, and maintaining confidentiality. Students gained an understanding of how these skills contribute to building a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship with clients.

The resource person also highlighted the importance of maintaining a non-judgmental attitude, respecting individual differences, and creating a safe environment where clients feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and emotions. Practical examples and interactive discussions helped students understand how basic counselling skills can be applied in different counselling situations.

The guest lecture provided students with valuable practical insights and enhanced their awareness of the professional skills and ethical attitudes required for effective counselling practice. The session served as a meaningful learning experience, enabling students to connect their theoretical knowledge with practical applications in the field of psychology.

Yaakesh M. N. of I MBA emerged as the Singles Winner, while Madhavan of I MBA and Sakthi Krishna of II MBA secured the Doubles Winner title. Nivash M. of I M.Sc. Visual Communication and Vignesh M. of I BBA were the Doubles Runners-up. The winners and runners-up were congratulated by Thiru. P. The PG Department of Computer Science, through the Nexus Technovate Club, organized an awareness session titled “The Gift of Life: Understanding the Importance of Human Organs” on 13 August 2026 at the SACAS Auditorium. The programme aimed to create awareness about human organs, organ donation, and the life-saving importance of organ transplantation.

Dr. K. Preethi, MDS, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Proprietor and Clinical Head, Medha Dental Care, served as the resource person. She delivered an informative session on the importance of organ donation and the urgent need to create greater public awareness about transplantation.

Dr. Preethi explained how organ donation can give a second chance at life to people suffering from organ failure. She encouraged students to make informed and compassionate decisions and to spread awareness among their families and communities.

The session also highlighted the values of empathy, humanity, and social responsibility. With active student participation, the programme successfully created awareness about organ donation and inspired students to contribute to a more caring and responsible society.

The PG Department of Computer Science, through The Nexus Technovate Club, organised a Guest Lecture titled “Hidden Power of Data Analytics: Driving Innovation in the Digital Age” on 17 August 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Data Science Laboratory (DS Lab).

The session was organised to provide students with a practical understanding of the importance of Data Analytics in the digital era and its role in transforming raw data into meaningful insights for innovation and informed decision-making.

The resource person explained the concepts of data analytics through real-world examples and a live demonstration. The live demonstration enabled students to observe how data can be processed, analysed, and interpreted to generate meaningful insights. By connecting theoretical concepts with practical implementation, the session helped students understand how data analytics is applied to solve real-world problems and support effective decision-making.

The resource person also discussed the applications of data analytics across various domains and highlighted its growing role in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Business Analytics, healthcare, marketing, and technology. The practical demonstration and relatable examples made the session interactive and helped students connect classroom learning with industry applications.

The session further provided insights into emerging career opportunities in the field of Data Science and Data Analytics, encouraging students to strengthen their analytical thinking, technical skills, and problem-solving abilities.
