he Department of Commerce - Computer Application, in association with IQAC and the Women Empowerment Cell, organized an awareness programme titled “Safety Starts with You” on 17 August 2026 at TF11. The programme was conducted by the IUCAW Unit, Avadi Police Commissionerate, with the aim of creating awareness about the safety and security of women and children.
Tmt. S. Kavitha, Tmt. J. Josephin, Tmt. A. Bhagavathi, and Tmt. G. Rajeshwari addressed the students and shared valuable information on POCSO, crimes against women and children, cybercrime, emergency helpline services, and the Kaavalan Udavi App.
The resource persons emphasized the importance of staying alert in both physical and digital environments and encouraged students to report incidents promptly and seek timely assistance. Special attention was given to responsible use of digital platforms, online safety, and precautions against cybercrime and fraud.
Students actively participated in the programme. The session helped students understand their rights, available support systems, and their personal responsibility towards safety and crime prevention.
The programme successfully promoted awareness, vigilance, responsible citizenship, and a safer community.

The Department of Bank Management, S.A. College of Arts & Science, in association with IQAC, organized a guest lecture on “First Aid and Emergency Response Care” on 18 August 2026 at the SACAS Auditorium. The programme was attended by students and faculty members.
The session was led by Mr. Neelagandan Sankar, Senior Project Lead and First Aid Trainer, Alert NGO, who provided valuable insights into first aid, emergency preparedness, safety precautions, and appropriate responses during critical situations.
A key highlight of the programme was the hands-on practical training. Students actively participated in demonstrations of basic first-aid procedures, emergency response techniques, basic life-saving responses, and safe ways to assist injured or affected individuals until professional medical help is available.
The resource person emphasized the importance of remaining calm, assessing situations carefully, ensuring personal safety, and seeking professional assistance when required. The interactive approach helped students connect theoretical knowledge with real-life situations.
The programme successfully enhanced participants’ awareness, confidence, preparedness, and practical skills, reinforcing the importance of first-aid knowledge as an essential life skill and a vital part of community safety and social responsibility.

The MoU aims to create valuable opportunities for students through seminars, workshops, internships, industrial visits, project work, skill development programmes, curriculum enrichment, consultancy, and research and development activities.
The collaboration will provide students with greater exposure to real-world professional environments, enabling them to gain practical knowledge, industry-relevant skills, and valuable professional experience. The Department of Psychology, S.A. College of Arts and Science, organized a field visit to Adyar Cancer Institute on 18 August 2026, providing students with valuable practical exposure to the psychological and emotional aspects of cancer care.
During the visit, students gained insights into the psychological challenges faced by individuals with cancer, including fear, anxiety, emotional distress, uncertainty, difficulties in coping with diagnosis and treatment, and concerns related to quality of life. The visit also helped students understand how cancer can affect not only patients but also their families and caregivers.
A key learning from the visit was the importance of psycho-oncology, an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the psychological, social, and behavioural aspects of cancer. Students learned about the role of psychological support in helping patients cope with illness, manage emotional distress, improve adjustment to treatment, and enhance overall well-being. The visit highlighted the importance of integrating psychological care with medical treatment to provide holistic and patient-centred cancer care.
The field visit served as a meaningful learning experience, enabling students to connect their theoretical knowledge with real-world healthcare practices and develop greater empathy, sensitivity, and professional understanding of the needs of individuals affected by cancer.
Department of Psychology Organized career guidance session on 17.08.2026
A career guidance session was conducted by the Department of Psychology for the Class 10 students of Velammal School, Avadi, with the objective of helping students develop greater awareness of their interests, abilities, and potential career pathways. Approximately 115 students participated in the one-hour session.
The session introduced students to Holland’s Career Theory, with particular emphasis on the RIASEC model, which classifies career interests into six areas: Realistic, Investigative, Artistic, Social, Enterprising, and Conventional. Through an interactive activity, students were encouraged to identify the interest areas that best reflected their preferences, strengths, and inclinations.
The students were guided to understand that career selection should not be based solely on academic marks, peer influence, family expectations, or social trends. The importance of considering individual interests, abilities, personality, values, strengths, and aspirations while making career decisions was emphasized.
The session further helped students relate their identified RIASEC interests to suitable career fields and educational pathways. Psychological aspects of career decision-making, including self-awareness, confidence, motivation, personal strengths, and understanding one’s own interests, were also discussed. This enabled students to view career planning from a broader and more individualized perspective.
The interactive activities encouraged active participation and provided students with an opportunity to reflect on the activities they genuinely enjoy and the areas in which they may have potential. The students gained a basic understanding of how psychological factors and personal interests can influence career choices and future educational decisions.
Overall, the career counselling session served as an introductory platform for Class 10 students to explore their interests, understand the RIASEC framework, develop self-awareness, and consider suitable career options. The programme encouraged students to make informed and personally meaningful career decisions based on their individual interests and strengths rather than simply following peer influence or prevailing social trends.

The Awareness Workshop on Ragging and Its Consequences was organized by the Department of Psychology on 13.08.2026 at the respective classrooms. The awareness session was conducted by the Psychology students in an interactive manner. The students introduced the concept of ragging and explained its various forms, including physical, verbal, psychological, and online forms of harassment. The session also provided students with an overview of anti-ragging regulations and the legal provisions applicable to educational institutions. The consequences of engaging in ragging, including institutional disciplinary action and possible legal consequences, were explained to emphasize the seriousness of the offence. The psychological effects of ragging, such as fear, anxiety, humiliation, social withdrawal, loss of confidence, and difficulties in academic adjustment, were also discussed. Students were encouraged to develop supportive peer relationships and contribute towards creating a positive, safe, and inclusive campus environment. Interactive discussions and practical examples helped students understand how to respond responsibly if they witness or experience ragging and highlighted the importance of promoting a respectful and ragging-free educational environment.

The 80th Independence Day Gram Sabha was held on 15.08.2026 at Kannampalayam Community Hall with active participation from the local community. As part of the event, 30 students from the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and NSS units of S.A. College of Arts & Science participated in the programme. The students actively took part in the Gram Sabha proceedings and supported the initiatives aimed at promoting community development and social responsibility. Their participation reflected the commitment of the institution towards rural development, civic awareness, and community engagement. The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, setting a respectful and cultural tone. Following this, Dr. G. Muruganandham, Senior Librarian of the college, extended a warm welcome and introduced the guest speakers.
The dignitaries felicitated the resource persons, Dr. S. Manikandan, Assistant Librarian and Information Officer at Anna Centenary Library, Chennai, and Vice President of SALIS, and Dr. P. Mohanathan, Librarian & Assistant Information Officer. Both have vast experience in academic and public libraries and have contributed significantly to the field of Library and Information Science.
The event featured a special address by the Principal and Dr. S. Ganapathy, Co-ordinator of IQAC, emphasizing the vital role of libraries in supporting academic pursuits, research, career advancement, and lifelong learning. Their speeches underscored how effective utilization of library resources can be a game-changer for students preparing for competitive exams.

The Department of English, S.A. College of Arts & Science, Chennai, organised WHEEL 2026 (Women in Higher Education Empowering English Learning), a State Conclave, on 14 August 2026 at the SACAS Theatre. The conclave focused on the theme, “Reimagining English Studies: Reviving Interest, Rebuilding Enrolment and Redefining Relevance in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
The event served as a meaningful platform to reflect on the future of English studies and the changing needs of learners.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Armstrong, Professor and Head, Department of English, University of Madras. Dr. Supala Pandiarajan, Associate Professor of English, University of Madras, moderated the programme. The panel discussion featured eminent academicians, including Dr. T. Shrimathy Venkatalakshmi, Dr. G. Kalvikkarasi, Dr. S. Sridevi and Dr. K. Kanthimathi.
The panelists strongly emphasised the importance of reading, literature, language proficiency and meaningful engagement with AI. They stressed that students must be taken back to stories to develop interest in literature. They cautioned that reducing literature to summaries could weaken the very foundation of English departments. The need to bring English drama back into classrooms and introduce academic writing at the undergraduate level was also highlighted.
The speakers observed that teachers themselves must continue reading and inspire students to do the same. As emphasised during the discussion, “Learning is hard,” and making learning overly easy can reduce curiosity and intellectual engagement.
The conclave successfully achieved its theme, and the panelists appreciated the Department of English for its efforts in creating a timely and thought-provoking academic platform.
