Significant changes were made in the years 1968, 1986, and most recently in 2020.India is a diverse country, so implementing changes in the education system takes time. Many graduates still struggle with basic communication skills, such as speaking and writing in proper English.
The New Education Policy (NEP 2020) has transformed the existing structure into a 5+3+3+4 system. The outdated model has been scrapped. The Indian government has planned to allocate 6% of the GDP to the education sector.
The revised educational stages are as follows:
Foundation stage: Up to 5 years of age (No exam will be conducted)
Preparatory stage: Ages 8 to 11 (No exam will be conducted)
Middle stage: Ages 11 to 14 (only objective type exam)
Secondary stage: Ages 14 to 18 (written exam)
Higher education: 3 to 4 years of graduation
The foundation stage will focus on learning in the mother tongue for better understanding. The middle stage will emphasize experiential learning and the inclusion of vocational courses. Looking ahead, the education system will be increasingly influenced and controlled by Artificial Intelligence (AI). Those who learn to integrate AI into their fields will have a significant advantage. In conclusion, Dr. Mahaveer emphasized that “Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.”
