Kookai International Film Festival – July Screening - 12.08.2024
The July edition of the Kookai International Film Festival commenced with great enthusiasmat the SACAS Preview Theatre. The event began at 9:00 AM with the traditional lighting ofthe lamp, symbolizing the inauguration of the festival. This significant ritual was followed bya warm welcome address delivered by Dr. R. Srinivasan, Head of the Department at S.A.College of Arts and Science (SACAS). Dr. Srinivasan expressed his delight at hosting thefestival and emphasized the importance of such cultural events in fostering creativity andintellectual growth among students.Following the welcome address, the Festival Director, Mr. Selvaraman, provided a brief introduction to the film festival, outlining its objectives and the significance of the films being screened. He highlighted the festival’s commitment to showcasing a diverse range of films, both domestic and international, that offer unique perspectives and artistic expression. The Kookai International Film Festival, known for its dedication to celebrating cinematic excellence, continues to serve as a platform for emerging and established filmmakers to present their work to a broader audience.
The first film to be screened at the SACAS Preview Theatre was Jama, a 2024 Indian Tamil-language drama directed by Pari Elavazhagan. The film, which ran for 30 minutes, captivated
the audience with its heartfelt portrayal of the traditional art form, Theru Koothu. Jama starsPari Elavazhagan, Ammu Abhirami, and Chetan, with supporting performances by Sri KrishnaDayal, KVN Manimegalai, Vasant Marimuthu, Siva Maran, A.K. Elavazhagan, and KaalaKumar. Despite certain narrative shortcomings, Jama is recognized as a genuine tribute toTheru Koothu, striving to revive this fading art form and bring it to the attention of acontemporary audience.After the screening, the students were given a unique opportunity to interact with the film’s crew members via a Skype video call. This session was highly interactive, with students eagerly engaging with the filmmakers and asking questions about the film’s production, themes, and the challenges faced in reviving a traditional art form. The crew members shared insights intot heir creative process, the significance of Theru Koothu in Tamil culture, and the motivation behind making Jama. This interaction provided students with a deeper understanding of the film and the dedication required to create meaningful cinema.
The highlight of the festival was the award ceremony, where Jama swept several prestigious awards. The film won accolades in multiple categories, including Best Supporting Actor, Best Director, Best Female Lead, and Best Film. These awards are a testament to the film’s impact and the exceptional performances delivered by the cast and crew. The recognition of Jama atthe Kookai International Film Festival underscores the film’s cultural relevance and its contribution to the preservation of traditional art forms. The second film screened was Balloon, an international German film with English subtitles. The film, based on a real-life incident, tells the gripping story of two families attempting to flee the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in a homemade hot air balloon. After their initial escape plan fails, they face significant challenges as they try to devise a second plan. Balloon captivated the audience with its intense narrative and emotional depth, providing a historical perspective on the struggles faced by those living in the GDR during the Cold War era. Following the screening of Balloon, students once again had the opportunity to interact with the film’s crew via a Skype call. This session was equally engaging, with students asking thoughtful questions about the film’s historical context, the process of adapting a true story for the screen, and the challenges of filming such a tense and dramatic escape. The crew memberswere generous in their responses, offering insights into the filmmaking process and the importance of historical accuracy in story telling.The Kookai International Film Festival’s July screening was a resounding success, leavingstudents inspired and more knowledgeable about the art of filmmaking. The interactive sessions provided valuable learning experiences, allowing students to engage directly with industry professionals and gain insights into the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking. The festival continues to be a significant cultural event, enriching the academic environment at SACAS and fostering a deeper appreciation for cinema among students.

Our College Men Badminton team won the 3rd place Trophy and Merit Certificate in the University of Madras B-zone Men Badminton Tournament 2024-2025 at Madras Christian College Tambaram Chennai on 12.08.2024
It is the First time Our College Men Badminton team won the 3rd place Trophy and Merit Certificate in the University of Madras B-zone Men Badminton Tournament 2024-2025 at Madras Christian College Tambaram Chennai. In this tournament our SACAS Men Badminton won the Fist round against SriRam college(2/0), won the Second round match against AnnaiVoilet college (2/0) , won the 3rd Round Quarter Final match against A.M.Jain College (2/0), in the Semifinal match our college lost D.G.Vaishnav College (1/2) and then our college won the 3rd & 4th match against Sridevi College (2/0) and got 3rd Place. Our College Top Badminton stars Yaakesh.M.N, Deepak.A & Bharath.M played fantastic performance .

The session featured a dynamic mix of cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercises, which tailored to boost energy and enhance overall fitness. It helped the students to get an opportunity to improve their health, build confidence, and have fun with their peers. At the end of the session it was like "Come ready to move and embrace a healthier, stronger you".

National Librarian Day Celebration at SACAS Auditorium On 12th August 2024, the Central Library of SACAS organized a grand celebration in honor of National Librarian Day, commemorating the birth anniversary of the esteemed Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, often revered as the father of library science in India. The event, held at the SACAS Auditorium, witnessed an impressive turnout, with around 450 students actively participating.
Theme: Importance of Promoting Good Reading Habits among Students
The occasion was graced by the presence of the esteemed chief guest, Mr. K. Venkataramani, a retired Scientist-SF from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Department of Space, Sriharikota. Known for his vast experience and contributions to India's space missions, Mr. Venkataramani provided an engaging and insightful address to the attendees.
Mr. Venkataramani commenced his speech by giving the audience a fascinating overview of ISRO's activities, including its pioneering space missions and the dedication of its scientists toward advancing India's space capabilities. He shared inspiring stories from his career, shedding light on the importance of perseverance, curiosity, and a thirst for knowledge.
In alignment with the event's theme, Mr. Venkataramani emphasized the vital role that reading plays in shaping the minds of young students. He spoke passionately about how developing good reading habits can enhance critical thinking, improve language skills, and broaden horizons. He encouraged the students to cultivate a daily reading habit, suggesting that it would not only improve their academic performance but also prepare them for future challenges.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from students, who were eager to engage with the theme and the chief guest's insights. The interactive session that followed Mr. Venkataramani's speech was particularly notable, as students posed thoughtful questions and shared their own experiences with reading. The session fostered a lively discussion on how to make reading a more integral part of their lives.

Renowned experts in the field, Dr. Prabhu Shankar, Associate Professor, Department of Education, and Dr. Carol, Controller of Examinations, SDNB Vaishnav College, shared their insights and expertise with the participants. The FDP focused on upskilling and reskilling for academic excellence, integrating technology for effective teaching, fostering a culture of continuous learning, and enhancing student engagement and outcomes. Leisure Time Management: Nandhini.M discussed the importance of leisure time management in her presentation. She highlighted the significance of balancing work and leisure, sharing practical methods for managing time effectively to reduce stress and enhance productivity. Her session underscored the value of recreational activities in maintaining overall well-being.

The Department of Visual Communication at S.A. College of Arts and Science organized a two-day photography workshop on August 8-9, 2024, led by Mr. Saran, TLC, an official photographer for an international TV channel. Titled "Exploring the Nuances of Light and Shadows," the workshop delved into the essentials of photography, focusing on lighting techniques and shadow manipulation. It offered a blend of theoretical knowledge and hands-on practice. On the second day, participants took part in a live model photoshoot and editing session, allowing them to apply their newfound skills. The workshop was well-received, with attendees praising its comprehensive and interactive approach to learning.
