The Department of HS-NFSMD and F3 Nutrition Club organized a guest lecture session titled "Embracing the Power of Yoga" on October 4, 2024. The session aimed to raise awareness about health and wellness and to encourage students to incorporate yoga into their daily routines. Ms. Mahalakshmi, a Health and Wellness Coach from SixD Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., was the chief guest. She discussed the benefits of yoga for overall health, focusing on circadian rhythm and the importance of maintaining a balanced lifestyle. Students engaged in breathing exercises, yoga poses, and relaxation techniques, enhancing their understanding of yoga’s positive impact on wellbeing.

The Department of Home Science - Food Service Management and Dietetics, along with the F3 Nutrition Club, organized a recipe display competition "Meal Mastery" on 6th September 2024, focusing on *Healthy Lunch Boxes recipes. The event was held in the Food Science Lab, 33 participants from various departments showcased creative, practical lunch boxes filled with wholesome ingredients like whole grains, vegetables, and plant-based proteins. The competition highlighted the importance of well-planned, healthy meals for maintaining energy and well-being, especially in today's fast-paced lifestyle. It successfully demonstrated how small changes in everyday meals can boost overall health.

Department of Home Science - Nutrition, Food Service Management and Dietetics and F3 Nutrition Club in association with Nutrition Society of India, organised Guest Lecture on Mindful Eating for a Healthy Lifestyle on 3.9.24 at SACAS Auditorium between 1 to 3 pm.
Our speaker Dr. Gowri Ramesh, Associate Professor, Department of Home Science, Women's Christian College, Convenor - NSI Chennai Chapter, delivered an insightful guest lecture emphasizing the importance of soulful eating . She explained how mindful eating involves paying attention to hunger and fullness cues, eating slowly, and savoring each bite. Dr. Gowri Ramesh highlighted the numerous benefits of this practice, including better digestion, improved nutrient absorption, weight management, and reduced stress. She encouraged the audience to develop a healthier relationship with food, emphasizing that how we eat is as important as what we eat for overall well-being. The lecture was well-received and highly informative.

Department of Home Science- Nutrition, FSM and DIETETICS, NUTRITION CLUB F3 organised Breastfeeding Awareness Program at Anganwadi Centers towards World Breastfeeding Week 2024 [1.8.24-7.8.24] on the Theme: Closing the Gap - Breastfeeding support for All at Anganwadi centre of Viraraghavapuram & Seneerkuppam on 5.8.24 from 10 am to 12 pm. Student activities begun with the explanation of the importance of Breastfeeding,a balanced diet of lactating mothers followed by describing the difference between breastfeeding and bottle feeding using charts. This program was a great success and the beneficiaries showed great interest in the awareness program.

The Department of Home Science inaugurated Nutrition Club and held an orientation and Freshers Day on 1st August 2024, at the SACAS Auditorium from 2-4 PM. The event began with the candle lighting ceremony followed by an inauguration of F3 NUTRITION CLUB - FIT FUEL FORUM and orientation session detailing the curriculum and career prospects. Freshers were welcomed with fun activities. Key highlights included a guest lecture by renowned guest speaker Dr.S.K POONKUZHALI and interactive sessions ending with samplings distribution to the freshers. The event set a positive tone for the academic year, encouraging active student participation and community building.

SACAS Explores Food Production Dynamics at ECO Kitchen On July 12, 2024, the Department of Home Science - NFSM&D at S.A. College of Arts & Science organized an enlightening industrial visit to ECO Kitchen, Injambakkam. The visit provided a comprehensive understanding of large-scale food production processes, highlighting the facility's efficiency and organization. Students witnessed firsthand the intricacies involved in managing food preparation on a mass scale, gaining valuable insights into industrial food production operations. The experience was both informative and insightful, contributing significantly to the students' educational journey in the field of home science and nutrition.





NUTRIQUEST on March 6th 2024
The Department of Home Science – NFSMD of S.A. College of Arts & Science, orchestrated a thought-provoking seminar, 'NUTRIQUEST,' tailored for students of the department on March 6th 2024. The seminar boasted a distinguished lineup of speakers, each renowned in their respective domains. Ms.Bamini M, the former Vice President of Nutrition Support Service in Sundaram Medical Foundation unravelled the intricacies of Nutrition management in Burns. Mr.P.Krishnamoorthy the former President of the Indian Dietetic Association Chennai chapter, showed the expertise by his presentation on Nutritional management in renal diseases. Ms. Shanthi Cauvery AT, the Managing Director of Elite Diet Studio, Chennai focused on functional foods, offering a detailed exploration of their benefits. The seminar served as an intellectual feast, imparting substantial knowledge and practical insights. The diversity of topics covered, ranging from burns to renal diseases and functional foods, showcased the interdisciplinary nature of nutrition science.
The engagement with eminent speakers and the depth of content covered made it a truly enriching experience for all attendees.









“Catch them Young” on 24.2.24
Indian Oil Corporation in association with Dutchess club Chennai and the Department of Homescience-NFSMD of S.A. College of Arts and Science ,conducted a cooking competition for our students on the theme “Catch them Young” on 24.2.24.The purpose was to bring out the creative and innovative culinary skill of the students. 54 students and 8 faculty members from various departments participated in the contest. The participants were asked to bring fully cooked dish and plate it at the venue. Three categories were given for the participants, namely salads & beverages,Main course and Desserts.The recipes were judged by Ms.Rathi Nilakandan, Co-founder of the Dutchess club, Ms.Jayanthi Murugesh, TN President Rashtriya life Saving Society RLSS and Ms.Prabha, Celebrity Nutritionist who are also members of the Dutchess Club.Prize winners were selected under all the categories and they be given an opportunity to participate in the grand finale to be held in Savera Hotel,Chennai on March 2nd 2024.



An interdepartmental competitions on 16.10.2023
To commemorate the World Food day, Department of Home Science - NFSMD at S.A. College of Arts & Science organized An interdepartmental competitions like Essay Writing, Poster Making and Slogan Writing on the centralized theme, "Water is Life. Water is Food. Leave No One Behind" of World Food Day 2023 for their students. Students from different departments actively participated in the various events and won prizes.

National Nutrition Week – Day 4
National Nutrition Week is being celebrated by the department of HS-NFSMD. On day 4, cooking competition entitled "Ready, Set,Cook" based on millets was conducted on 5.9.23.Students enthusiastically participated and showed their love for making healthy dishes out of millets. Students came out with different dishes such as Kodo Millet Payasam, Barnyard Vegetable Cutlet, Paneer Foxtail Millet Dosa, Stuffed Ragi Dosa & Ragi Adai. Mr.S. Susidharan, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce (A&F) judged the recipes.
