Pongal Festival Celebrated with Grandeur at S.A. College of Arts & Science

The Pongal festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm and traditional splendour at S.A. College of Arts & Science, Thiruverkadu, Chennai, on 12th and 13th of January, 2026 highlighting the rich cultural heritage of Tamil Nadu. The campus transformed into a vibrant rural landscape with a variety of traditional programmes, including a special Pattimandram, folk performances by Prasanth’s Isai Murugan Gramiya Kalai Kuzhu, Bharatanatyam by the Thandavam troupe, and cultural performances by students. Traditional food stalls, rural games, bullock-cart displays, pot-breaking events, and native sweets added to the festive spirit.

The celebration was held under the leadership of the Correspondent Thiru P. Venkatesh Raja, in the presence of Director Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi and Principal Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar. Renowned film lyricist and poet Snehan graced the occasion as the chief guest and shared inspiring insights from his life and professional experiences. Organised by the Department of Tamil, the event created a truly immersive village atmosphere, making the festival a memorable cultural celebration.

The Department of Computer Applications of S.A. College of Arts and Science, in association with ICT Academy and under the banner of the Skill Elevation Club, organized an Industrial Visit titled “UmagineTN’2026” on 09 January 2026 at the Chennai Trade Centre. The visit was conducted from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. and witnessed active participation from faculty members and 43 second-year BCA students.

The program was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, whose address highlighted Tamil Nadu’s vision of becoming a global technology and innovation hub. UmagineTN’2026 served as a premier platform showcasing emerging technologies, digital governance initiatives, artificial intelligence, Industry 4.0 solutions, startups, and ICT-driven innovations that are shaping the future of industries.

Through interactive sessions, technology exhibits, and expert talks, students gained valuable exposure to real-world applications of computer science concepts. The event emphasized the role of digital transformation, innovation ecosystems, and skill development aligned with current industry requirements. Students also learned about career opportunities, entrepreneurship, and the importance of continuous upskilling in the evolving IT landscape.

The Department of Computer Science of S.A. College of Arts and Science, in collaboration with ICT Academy and under the banner of the Nexus Technovate Club, organized an Industrial Visit titled “UmagineTN’2026 – An Industrial Visit to Chennai Trade Centre” on 09 January 2026. The visit was scheduled from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. at the Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai. The program was attended by faculty members and 45 second-year B.Sc. Computer Science students.

The event was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru M.K. Stalin, whose keynote address emphasized Tamil Nadu’s commitment to digital innovation, emerging technologies, and inclusive technological growth. UmagineTN’2026 provided a comprehensive platform showcasing advancements in artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, smart governance, Industry 4.0, startups, and ICT-enabled solutions.

Students explored various technology stalls and interactive sessions that demonstrated real-time applications of computer science concepts in industry and governance. The exposure helped students understand how theoretical knowledge is transformed into practical solutions addressing real-world challenges. The event also highlighted career opportunities, entrepreneurship prospects, and the importance of innovation and continuous skill development in the technology sector.

Hands-on Workshop on AI and Machine Learning at IIT Madras Research Park.

A One-day workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning was successfully conducted on 10 January 2026 at GEMLABS, IIT Madras Research Park, Guindy. The programme was organized by GEMLABS in association with S.A. College of Arts & Science for the students of the Department of Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence.

The session was led by Mr. Vinish, who gave a clear and practical introduction to AI fundamentals. He explained important areas such as Artificial Intelligence basics, Data Science, Data Analyst roles, and Machine Learning Engineering. Students were also introduced to the Windsurf Editor, an AI-powered coding tool that supports real-time development.

A live demonstration using Plotly helped students understand data visualization through radar graphs. The speaker also explained the seven major AI patterns and highlighted AI-based certification courses like PMI–CPMAI. The workshop concluded with insights into future AI trends, making the session informative, engaging, and highly beneficial for students.

The Department of Home Science – Nutrition, Food Service Management & Dietetics and F3 Nutrition Club, S.A. College of Arts & Science, successfully organized a one-day workshop on “Practical Techniques in Nutritional Assessment: From Data to Diagnostics” on 9th January 2026. The session was led by Ms. Padmavathy K, Senior Nutrition Consultant, Girishwari Multi-Speciality Hospital and ARKA Centre for Hormonal Health, Chennai.

The workshop provided hands-on exposure to essential nutritional assessment tools, including anthropometric measurements, dietary assessment methods, interpretation of biochemical parameters, and clinical indicators. The resource person effectively bridged theory with real-time clinical applications, enhancing participants’ diagnostic and analytical skills.

Students actively engaged in discussions, demonstrations, and case-based learning, gaining clarity on translating nutritional data into meaningful dietary interventions. The programme enriched academic understanding and strengthened practical competencies, aligning with current professional requirements in nutrition and dietetics. The event concluded with positive feedback, reflecting its relevance and impact on student learning.

National Level Inter-Collegiate Finance Summit 2025 Held at SACAS

S.A. College of Arts & Science (SACAS), Chennai, successfully organized the National Level Inter-Collegiate Finance Summit 2025 at the SACAS Theatre, Thiruverkadu. Conducted by the School of Commerce, the summit was themed “Financial Resilience and Sustainable Growth in a Dynamic Economy.” The event brought together students, faculty members, and delegates from various institutions, offering a vibrant platform for academic exchange and industry-oriented discussions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 8, 9, and 12).

The summit featured three insightful academic sessions. Mr. V. S. Sundaresan, Former Executive Director, SEBI, addressed Sessions I and III, focusing on financial management, regulatory oversight, and securities market misconduct through case studies. Session II was delivered by the Chief Guest, Mr. Ravi Kumar, Company Secretary and Legal Consultant, who critically analyzed cryptocurrency and its impact on financial stability.

The summit strengthened industry-academia interaction and reinforced SACAS’s commitment to responsible financial leadership. The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks.

The Career Development Cell of S.A. College of Arts & Science organized a Student Orientation Programme on Career Guidance on 10 January 2026 at the SACAS Auditorium, Thiruverkadu, Chennai. The programme aimed to create awareness among students about diverse career opportunities and help them make informed career choices.

The session was led by Mr. C. Sivakumar, IRS Officer, who shared his extensive experience in mentoring aspirants for competitive examinations. He explained various career avenues available through examinations conducted by Union Public Service Commission, Staff Selection Commission, Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, and the banking sector. He elaborated on the UPSC examination structure and highlighted the advantages of government careers, including job security, social recognition, and growth prospects.

Mr. Sivakumar emphasized disciplined preparation through regular newspaper reading, current affairs analysis, and mock tests. The programme was informative and motivating, inspiring students to plan their future careers with clarity and confidence.

The Department of Computer Applications, S.A. College of Arts & Science, under the initiative of The Skill Elevation Club, organized an industrial visit titled “UmagineTN’2026” on 08.01.2026 at the Chennai Trade Centre, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. The visit aimed to expose students to emerging technologies, industry trends, and real-world applications within the IT and digital ecosystem.

The event was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Thiru. M.K. Stalin, whose address emphasized Tamil Nadu’s vision for digital transformation, innovation-led growth, and youth empowerment through technology. The programme featured expert talks, live demonstrations, and technology showcases in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, smart governance, startup innovation, digital infrastructure, and future-ready skills.

A total of 65 first-year BCA students, along with faculty members, actively participated. The visit enhanced students’ understanding of industry expectations, practical technology applications, and the role of innovation in societal development, motivating them toward skill-oriented and future-focused learning.

The Department of Home Science – Nutrition, Food Service Management & Dietetics, S.A. College of Arts & Science, successfully organized a Guest lecture titled “Love Your Heart, Feed It Right” under the theme “Cardio Vascular Care” on 07 January 2026.

The session was delivered by Ms. N. Selvamani, Senior Chief Dietitian, Kauvery Hospital, Vadapalani Branch, who highlighted the increasing burden of cardiovascular diseases and the vital role of nutrition and lifestyle changes in prevention and management. She discussed heart-healthy dietary practices, balanced fats, fiber-rich foods, and the need to reduce salt and sugar intake. The importance of physical activity and stress management for maintaining heart health was also emphasized.

Students actively participated in the interactive discussion and gained valuable practical insights into clinical nutrition and preventive cardiology. The programme aligned with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), promoting awareness, learning, and professional responsibility among students.

MATH MASTERMIND–2026 Sparks Young Minds at S.A. College of Arts & Science

The Department of Mathematics, in association with the Mathelets Club of S.A. College of Arts & Science, successfully organized an Inter-School Event titled “MATH MASTERMIND–2026” on 07th January 2026, marking a special academic celebration. The programme began with a warm welcome address by Dr. G. Ambika, Head of the Department of Mathematics, followed by the honouring of the Chief Guest.

The esteemed speaker of the day, Mrs. T. V. Manamalli, Principal of Jaya Jaya Sankara International CBSE School, Chennai, addressed the students and highlighted how mathematics develops cognitive skills, creativity, analytical ability, and logical thinking, supporting both academic excellence and effective decision-making.

A total of 323 students from 15 schools participated enthusiastically. Four events—Math Quiz, Math Connection, Math Models, and Math Fun Games—were conducted. Winners and runners were awarded cash prizes. The event was held successfully with the strong support of the Correspondent Mr. P. Venkatesh Raja, Director Dr. V. Sayi Satyavathi, and Principal Dr. Malathi Selvakkumar, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to promoting the importance of Mathematics.
