The 80th Independence Day Gram Sabha was held on 15.08.2026 at Kannampalayam Community Hall with active participation from the local community. As part of the event, 30 students from the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) and NSS units of S.A. College of Arts & Science participated in the programme. The students actively took part in the Gram Sabha proceedings and supported the initiatives aimed at promoting community development and social responsibility. Their participation reflected the commitment of the institution towards rural development, civic awareness, and community engagement. The event provided the students with an opportunity to understand local governance and contribute to the welfare of the community.

The event aimed to foster awareness among students regarding the significance of reading habits and the strategic use of library resources to excel in competitive examinations.
Event Proceedings
The programme commenced with the Tamil Thai Vaazhthu, setting a respectful and cultural tone. Following this, Dr. G. Muruganandham, Senior Librarian of the college, extended a warm welcome and introduced the guest speakers.
The dignitaries felicitated the resource persons, Dr. S. Manikandan, Assistant Librarian and Information Officer at Anna Centenary Library, Chennai, and Vice President of SALIS, and Dr. P. Mohanathan, Librarian & Assistant Information Officer. Both have vast experience in academic and public libraries and have contributed significantly to the field of Library and Information Science.
The event featured a special address by the Principal and Dr. S. Ganapathy, Co-ordinator of IQAC, emphasizing the vital role of libraries in supporting academic pursuits, research, career advancement, and lifelong learning. Their speeches underscored how effective utilization of library resources can be a game-changer for students preparing for competitive exams.

The Department of English, S.A. College of Arts & Science, Chennai, organised WHEEL 2026 (Women in Higher Education Empowering English Learning), a State Conclave, on 14 August 2026 at the SACAS Theatre. The conclave focused on the theme, “Reimagining English Studies: Reviving Interest, Rebuilding Enrolment and Redefining Relevance in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.”
The event served as a meaningful platform to reflect on the future of English studies and the changing needs of learners.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. S. Armstrong, Professor and Head, Department of English, University of Madras. Dr. Supala Pandiarajan, Associate Professor of English, University of Madras, moderated the programme. The panel discussion featured eminent academicians, including Dr. T. Shrimathy Venkatalakshmi, Dr. G. Kalvikkarasi, Dr. S. Sridevi and Dr. K. Kanthimathi.
The panelists strongly emphasised the importance of reading, literature, language proficiency and meaningful engagement with AI. They stressed that students must be taken back to stories to develop interest in literature. They cautioned that reducing literature to summaries could weaken the very foundation of English departments. The need to bring English drama back into classrooms and introduce academic writing at the undergraduate level was also highlighted.
The speakers observed that teachers themselves must continue reading and inspire students to do the same. As emphasised during the discussion, “Learning is hard,” and making learning overly easy can reduce curiosity and intellectual engagement.
The conclave successfully achieved its theme, and the panelists appreciated the Department of English for its efforts in creating a timely and thought-provoking academic platform.

Mr. Ramesh Narayanan introduced students to the stock market and highlighted the importance of informed investment. Mr. Rangachari explained the functioning of primary and secondary markets, different investment options, and the relationship between risk and return. He also introduced students to fundamental analysis through practical examples and shared useful online resources for understanding capital market trends.

The Principal delivered a special address, emphasizing that a leadership position is not merely an honour but a responsibility. He encouraged students to actively contribute to departmental activities, support their peers, maintain discipline, and perform their duties with sincerity and commitment.
The Chief Guest, Ms. G. Shyla Mary, Sub-Inspector of Police, Pallikaranai Traffic Investigation Wing, delivered an inspiring session on the meaning and responsible use of power. She explained how power can be used positively to bring meaningful change to society. She also highlighted the growing role of women in leadership and the importance of determination and courage.
Drawing inspiration from the life of Martin Luther King Jr., she demonstrated how responsible leadership and the effective use of power can inspire people and transform society. The ceremony motivated the newly appointed student leaders to lead with confidence, integrity, and responsibility.

The workshop provided students with an opportunity to explore the creative and technical aspects of Visual Effects (VFX) and understand its growing role in modern media and entertainment.
The session featured industry experts Mr. Balaji Parthiban, 2D Supervisor, BOT VFX, and Mr. A.B. Govardhan, Creative Department Head, BOT VFX, as resource persons. They shared valuable insights into professional VFX workflows, creative processes, and the skills required to build a career in the visual effects industry.
Through interactive sessions, students learned how creativity, technology, and visual storytelling combine to create impactful visual experiences. The workshop also helped students connect classroom learning with real-world industry practices.

The Home, Prohibition and Excise Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, organized the Mass Anti-Drug Pledge 2026 on 11 August 2026 at Presidency College, Chennai, as a statewide initiative under the leadership of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The programme aimed to create awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promote a healthy and responsible society.
